*3rd of July 1977*

That morning I woke up and sat up in bed. The sun was pouring in through the curtains, making me squint. I pulled the duvet off my side of the bed and found blood on the white sheets. I was almost certain it wasn't me but I went to the bathroom just to be sure and of course, it wasn't.

I went back to my bed and gently took the cover off Roger too and saw the side of his grey pyjama bottoms were soaked in blood. I tapped his arm, trying to wake him up. He stirred and then winced in pain. "Are you okay?" I asked. "My fucking hip is killing me!" He shouted. He turned on his side slightly, continuing to wince and saw his blood coated bottoms. I gently took them off him. The tears were pouring from his eyes and he grasped the sheets in pure agony.

I winced myself as I found what was beneath his trousers. His fractured hip had suddenly misplaced and pierced right through the skin. He looked down at his hip and then closed his eyes in utter terror. I called the ambulance as I couldn't move him myself. They arrived and brought him to the hospital. It felt like the hospital was our second home at this stage. We were constantly in it.

I called Brian and told him what happened. He came to the hospital to visit and helped me with the twins. I was worried for Roger as I didn't know how they would mend his injury. After waiting for an hour or two, a doctor sat me and Roger down and talked about the only helpful solution: surgery. She said it wouldn't take long but it would make his hip a lot better and prevent this from happening again.

I waited in the waiting room with Brian as Roger was under going surgery. As Brian and I sat and talked, I saw Ben Smith stroll across the hall. "Hi Megan." He said, slightly waving at me. "Ben." I mumbled in acknowledgment and raising my hand ever so slightly. "Who's that?" Asked Brian. "Just some guy Roger and I know. His names Ben." I told him. Brian just nodded. Obviously he didn't know the full story. "He bullied me in secondary school..." I said to Brian. "Really?" He asked. "Did Roger not tell him off?"

"No, him and Ben were friends." I replied. "What kind of things did he do to you?" Asked Brian. "Um, let's see.... well..... he's done the usual knocking my books out of my hands and food and he stole some of my books too.... but I think the worst thing he did was.... telling pretty much the whole school that I had hepatitis.." I shuddered as I reminisced about those tough years. "And did you?" Asked Brian. "No! I didn't and everyone thought I did. But it wasn't just me he harassed. Even Roger." I said. "Were they not friends?" Asked Brian. "Yeah but Ben was still a dick to Roger. But Roger still kept being his friend because he 'felt sorry for him'. I never felt sorry for him. He's an arsehole. Roger wanted to catch up with him when he found out I met him on the accident."

"I think you should too...." said Brian. I rolled my eyes. "Brian. He's a dick." I said. "Yeah I know but you should at least give him a chance to redeem himself and apologise." Brian replied. "But Brian. I was talking to him and he made fun of me for marrying Roger."

"Anyone would make fun of that." Laughed Brian.

I glared at him. He cleared his throat nervously. "Uh anyways.... I think you should talk to him. Usually bullies are people who are extremely insecure and have been bullied before. You should listen to what he has to say." He said.

The nurse appeared. "Mrs Taylor," she said. "Rogers surgery was completely successful. He is currently highly sedated and we will call you in when he's awake and ready to talk."

Myself and Brian left the hospital to give Roger time to sleep and recuperate from his surgery. We brought the twins home and Brian stayed for a little while. After a short silence he said: "So you think you're going to say something to this Ben guy?" I didn't know how to respond. "Well I would like to but what am I supposed to say? 'Hey, you ruined my school life, but how have you been?' I don't think so....."

Brian just laughed at me. He put his hand on mine. "Don't worry about it Megan." I smiled back at him. No matter what, Brian was always do supporting.

The phone suddenly rang and made me jump out of my skin. I walked over to it and answered. "Hello?" I said. "Hello, Mrs Taylor, this is Dr Smith and I would like to let you know that Roger is completely recovered from his surgery and he is awake and talking. He wants to see you and his friend, um, Bruce, is it?" She said. "Okay thank you I'll be over soon."

"Come on Brian. Roger wants to see us, but they doctor called you Bruce!" I said, laughing. "Bruce?" He asked, doubtfully. "Yeah, either Roger called you Bruce or she doesn't know you." Brian laughed and we got back into the car with the kids and drove to the hospital. On the way in the car, Somebody To Love came on the radio. I gasped and turned it up. "Kids!" I said to Elly and Aidan. "Its daddy's song!"

"Well it's actually Freddies song, but whatever." Said Brian. "Brian, they don't understand. They don't even know about Queen. They think it's all Roger." I told him. "Wow, imagine a one man Roger band." Said Brian laughing. I rolled my eyes and laughed too.

We listened to the harmony parts. "How did you get Roger to sing so high?" I asked. "Oh he doesn't even have to try. He just sings so high. He's got a dog whistle pitch voice, or well that's what Freddie says." "And is that you singing low?" I asked. "Yeah. I can't sing high." He said.

We arrived at the hospital and went to Rogers room. "Hey Roger, how are you?" I asked. "I'm okay." He said. "Hi Brian." He said to Brian. I put the twins down and sat beside Rogers bed. "Ben was in here earlier." Said Roger to me. I rolled my eyes. "Did you tell him to get out?" I asked. "No, we sat and talked for a while. He's changed a lot. I don't think he's as mean anymore to be honest. He said to send you to his room and you can talk. He wants to apologise." Roger told me. "I don't want his apology." I said, stubbornly. "Maybe you should." Said Brian to me. I stood up. "Fine! I will."

I knocked on Ben's door. "Come in!"

"Oh hi Megan." He said. "Hi Ben." I said. "So how have you been?" He asked me. "Oh well, okay. Been worried about Roger though. I think he's okay."

"Oh yeah, I was talking to him and he seems okay." Said Ben. "Anyways," he said. "I just wanted to tell you that I'm so so very sorry about every single thing I did to you in school. I was a very narcissistic guy and I dont know how I had any friends. But I just want you to know that I'm very sorry."

"Its okay Ben. I forgive you." I said. I felt like his apology wouldn't completely cut it for me. He did a lot of bad stuff to me.

"So when I get out of the hospital could we meet up, me you and Roger and go for a drink or something?" He asked. "Of course. Thanks for asking."

I left Ben's room and went back to Rogers. "Well?" He asked. "He apologised and invited us out for dinner some night." I told him. "Now I told you didn't I?" Said Roger. "Its all fake." I huffed. Brian laughed. "Someones very stubborn."

After a few hours Brian left the hospital to go back home to Chrissie. The doctor came back into the room. "So, Mr Taylor, your hip should be fine after this and if you do have any problems please let us know. I'm going to keep you in for observation tonight." She said.

When visiting hours were up myself, Elly and Aidan got ready to leave. Roger had fallen asleep and I kissed his forehead. He woke up and put his arms to me. I gave him a hug and he kissed my lips. "Goodnight my darling." I said to him. "Night." He mumbled sleepily.

I arrived home with the kids and put them to bed. I put the blood stained sheets into the wash and put new ones on. I got into bed and fell asleep, although missing Roger with all my heart.
