I stood in the kitchen cooking dinner as Shawn sat in the living room watching a sports channel with me two sons Caleb and Benjamin.
They were waiting for my daughter Kehlani to come down for her date tonight. I feel so bad for this boy.
They can all be so protective of her. I just hope he's ready to be interrogated like he stole something.
I promised to stay out of this because Shawn said that all he was doing was protecting his little girl and the boys said they were just looking out for their baby sister.
I was stirring in the pot when the doorbell rang.
"Lani! Hayes is here!" I yelled up stairs.
"Alright mom! Tell him I'll be down in a few be down in a few."
I left out the kitchen making my way towards the front door but the boys were already tumbling towards the door.
"Guys! Sit down I've got it." I pushed past them and looked through the peephole.
Hayes was standing there with a bouquet of roses and checking his breath.
Aww reminds me of when Shawn took me on our first date. He was so nervous, but so adorable.
"Shania are you gonna open the door or are you gonna let the boy wait outside." Shawn chuckled.
I didn't realize I was sitting there in a trance.
I scoffed. "I should. You three are planning on scaring the boy!"
I opened the door and it revealed a nervously smiling Hayes Grier.
"H-hi Mrs Mendes. I-I'm here to take out your beautiful daughter, Kehlani."
I chuckled. "Honey I know who you're here for."
I opened the door wider to let him inside.
As soon as he steeped in, three sets of eyes were glaring at him.
I could tell the boys were making him uncomfortable so I glared back at them making them soften up a bit.
"Go ahead and sit over there Hayes, she'll be down in a few."
Hayes went and say across form them trying to avoid they're gaze.
I was making my way towards the kitchen but stopped by Shawn.
"Go easy on him baby. He doesn't mean any harm." I whispered in his ear.
"You don't know that." He mumbled while still staring at Hayes.
I rolled my eyes and walked away.
"Kehlani! You might wanna hurry!"

You could cut the tension with a knife in the living room.
Hayes was putting his attention on the t.v while Shawn and the boys were focusing on him.
"So...those clippers huh?" Hayes said. Trying to lighten the mood.
They just looked at him in silence.
He looked down.
"Hayes."
He looked up hoping it was Kehlani but but was her father.
"Y-yes sir?"
"What are your intentions with my daughter?"
He gulped.
"W-well sir. I think your daughter is beautiful a-and-"
"So because she's beautiful, you think you can do whatever you please with her?!" Kehalni's older brother Benjamin butted in.
"N-no sir! She has a wonderful personality and that what I love about her." He as sweating bullets.
"Well haven't you heard. Girls with good personalities are most likely to be virgins." Caleb said while smirking.
"I uh, wasn't aware." He pulled on his collar.
"Are you a virgin, Hayes?" Shawn said while watching him intently.
Caleb and Benjamin were holding back laughs.
"Y-yes sir."
"Well let's hope it stays that way." He said while smiling.
Before they could ask anymore questions. Kehlani came down in a blue denim baby doll dress and Nike white and black superstars.
"And where do you think you're going with that on miss?" They all stood up.
"Dad!" She whined.
I heard the commotion and walked in to calm them down.
"Oh baby. She's looks adorable."
I smiled and went and hugged my daughter.
"It's about time you came down. They were about to kill you're date."I whispered in her ear.
I pulled away and went to Shawn's side.
"Kehalni. You look amazing." He smiled.
She looked away and blushed. "Thank you Hayes."
"T-these are for you." He shakily handed her the flowers.
"Aww so sweet of you." He looked down at them.
"So guys, did he pass your test?" I asked.
They looked at him once more.
"He's alright." They all said.
He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in.
I chuckled.
"We'll have fun on your date you guys." I smiled.
"But not too much fun." Shawn glared.
"Remember out talk." The boys said.
They headed out the door and we all watched as he opened the door for her.
