Once we got in there I sat her down and the nurse inspected her ankle.
"Oh honey, thank god you only sprained it." The woman chuckled grabbing some ice after wrapping the ankle up.
"You will be able to walk on it just not to much pressure on that exact foot and just come see me in a couple of days."
She gave Alise a lollipop and left out the room.
Alise stayed quiet but she knew I had questions.
"Alise, any reason why that boy would push you?" I asked.
"Um, his name is Ronald and he doesn't like me too much." She said looking down.
"Do you know why he doesn't like you?" I knew she was hiding something.
"I-i don't know."
I sighed deciding to let it go and help her back to her room.
As we were walking through the hallways we saw Shawn in the discipline office with Ronald and the administrator.
"Do you know it's extremely disrespectful to put hands on a lady young man!"
The administrator scolded him but he obviously was ignoring him.
"Oh Alise are you alright?" The administrator the asked causing them to look at us.
We slowly went into the office.
"I-I'm okay." She mumbled.
"No Alise you're not okay. You need to tell us what's wrong." I said causing ronald to smack his lips.
I turned to him. "Excuse me, is there a problem, besides the fact that you have no manners." I said.
He scoffed.
"Can't you tell that you all are babying her! She's always siting around moping! And if she does talk it's always complaining.
'Oh my parents are dead'.
And you're always so quick to come to her rescue. She's no different than us! We're all orphans!" He yelled.
"You think we don't know that? Alise happened to be a lot younger than you when she lost her parents and shes apparently handling it better than you. You don't see her bullying other kids making them feel even more worthless. If anything you should be setting an example and making them feel better about themselves."
By the end of my speech Ronald was moping.
"Come on Alise, I think he's learned his lesson."
That night//
I tucked Alise in her bed.
"Thank you Ms. Y/n for taking care of me today." She smiled.
"No problem honey. Now if you have any other problems, don't be afraid to tell me. I'm always here for you. I promise."
"Okay." I hugged her.
"Goodnight Alise." I kissed her forehead.
"Goodnight mommy."
I smiled but then my eyes widened at what she just said.
"Um, see you in tomorrow." I turned in the nightlight and closed the door.
Later that night//
I layed in the dark on Shawn's bare chest.
"Shawn, you awake?" I asked
"Mhmm." He mumbled
"Today was interesting." I said
"Yeah, that Ronald kid was an asshole."
I smacked him.
"Hey, you know it's true." He whined.
"Um, yeah but only because he's obviously had a rough life and it's even tougher now that he's alone. Only lord knows what he's going through by himself."
He sighed. "Yeah you're right."
"Shawn, Alise called me mommy."
I sighed.He sat up. "Really?"
I looked up at him. "Yeah."
"Well, how do you feel about it?" He pulled me towards him.
"I mean I'm flattered that she thinks of me that way but what does this mean?" I chewed at my thumbnail.
He pulled my hand down knowing I was nervous.
"Do you think of her as a daughter?"
"Sometimes. To be honest I think about it all the time. I can't help but feel I'm growing attached to her."
I ran my hand through my wild hair.
"Well don't think about it too much." Well talk about it in the morning.
He pulled me down causing me to giggle. He kissed my forehead,
"Goodnight babe."
"Goodnight."
