Isn't being sick just great? Completely drained of energy, coughing up a lung, can't breathe out your nose...just great. You were currently a victim of this, the flu, and its latest problem was keeping you up all night. You were curled up in your covers due to chills running up your body, but throwing them off ever five minutes because the chills would turn into heat waves. Plus you were taking in about half the oxygen you should be since your nose was practically damned off.
Looking over at the clock, you groaned angrily. 2:39 AM. You officially had only slept seven hours the last three days, and it was getting to you. Medication didn't work, neither did music, and sleeping pills surprisingly made you more awake. However the hell that worked. There was one possible solution that had worked in the past...but no. You couldn't ask him, especially since the two of you weren't even together. Plus if you asked, he could say no, he could be asleep...there were a lot of ways it couldn't pan out. Might be worth a shot... you thought.
"Damn it..." you muttered, reaching towards your phone on the nightstand. Dialing Bucky's number, you hesitated pressing call. A pained sigh escaped your sore throat, and you officially were calling him. After two rings, your nerves were growing and you were about to hang up, when Bucky picked up.
"Hello?" He asked, not sounding tired. You hoped he was awake and you didn't interrupt one of the rare sleep filled nights he had.
You cleared your throat to avoid sounding sick, and answered. "Um...hey, I-uh..."
"Y/N are you okay? Why are you calling so late?" Bucky asked, not sounding annoyed but worried.
"Yeah, I uh-" you were interrupted by your own sneeze. You mentally cursed yourself, but continued. "I'm fine."
"You're sick aren't you?"
"...No."
"Yeah, you are. Alright, I'll be right over," he said without hesitation.
"No Buck it's really-" he hung up before you could finish. "-okay," you sighed, feeling bad for even calling him in the first place.
You noticed that incredible amount of talking stripped your throat of moisture and now you were in need of water. Preparing yourself for the walk, you practically pulled yourself out of bed. With all the cold and flu medicine in your system and since all the lights were off, the walk to the kitchen was a challenge.
You had a head rush from standing up, and you didn't even notice you were already in the kitchen until your hip hit the counter. Shaking off the pain, you stuck a clean glass under the faucet of now running water. You noticed you were swaying due to the fact that your head felt as if it was full of cotton balls, and you could honestly fall over any second.
Speaking of, all sense of balance was quickly deteriorating and you went falling towards the floor. It felt like slow motion, and luckily because that gave someone enough time to catch you.
It was a shock at first, plus some cool surface touched your feverish skin and threw you off. That is until you looked up to see Bucky staring down at you with worry. "You alright there?" he asked softly. You nodded slightly, him helping you stand straight again. You groaned again feeling that familiar head rush, and he reached from behind you to turn off the sink. "Alright, come on. You need sleep." Before you knew it, Bucky had picked you up bridal style with ease.
You nuzzled your head against his chest and felt at ease, and honestly comforted for the first time in three days. Then you felt your sheets underneath you, and your bed dip slightly in front of you, but didn't feel him beside you. The curiosity pried your eyes open, and you were greeted with Bucky's blue eyes in the light from the city outside.
"Do you want me to stay?" he asked cautiously.
"Why else would I ask you here...?" you halfheartedly joked. "U-unless you don't want to..."
He chuckled at that. "I figured. Plus it's the least I could do since you help me fall back asleep after my..nightmares," he said, almost too quiet to hear. He kicked off his shoes and folded back the covers to move in beside you, which instantly made you happier.
He put his arm around you and you willingly cuddled up against his chest, already feeling tired, your eyes fluttering closed. He ran his fingers aimlessly through your hair, and you almost forgot you were sick and feeling like absolute crap.
"Thanks for doing this..." you muttered into his chest.
"No problem Y/N. Whatever it takes to make you happy. And you've done this for me countless times so," he smiled a soft smile at the thought.
"And by the way, you're ridiculously comfortable James..." you added quietly, slipping into sleep already. You couldn't see but he was smiling like an idiot.
"Why thank you. I hear that a lot," he joked.
"Mm, from who Steve?" you returned the joking tone, and his chest vibrated under you as he laughed and hugged you closer to him.
"Ha ha, very funny. I think you need some sleep."
"I agree..." you said. The last thing you heard was Bucky humming some song from the 40's, lulling you into sleep. Well, not quite the last thing.
"I love you Y/N..." he whispered, sending butterflies free in your stomach.
