The night skyline of London really was breath taking. The city seemed so alive at night. The buildings all lit up, the stars. You had no clue if there were people on the ground though, because you were doing anything but looking down. A long rope was attached to the harness around your waist, belaying you a hundred and fifty feet in the air, only it felt like a million. Your fear of heights did not come in handy when S.H.E.I.L.D sent you out to "discreetly break into a skyscraper". Which apparently translated to, "you have to almost kill yourself by dangling on the outside of a building". Luckily, your boyfriend was harnessed up right next to you, which did make it easier.

Any clank of the gear sent your heartbeat racing. The wind whipped around you, sending chills over your exposed arms. Your whole body seemed stiff and tense, jaw clenched, hands balled into fists, and Clint must have noticed.

"Babe, are you okay?" Clint paused, stopping both of you in mid-air. Your conjoined ropes hitched and so did your breath.

"Y-yeah," you muttered uneasily. Well, you lied uneasily.

"Are you afraid of heights?" Clint asked. You nodded, looking at your feet when you caught yourself, and looked up instead. Then, a sudden pressure on your hand dragged your gaze back down. Clint was holding your hand, rubbing the back of it with his thumb, and a wave of calm rushed through you. "I'm right here, okay?" You didn't even have to respond to be okay. Just seeing his eyes reflecting the city skyline was comforting enough. "And how the hell did I not know you were afraid of heights?" he asked gently.

You scoffed at that. "Well, I don't think we've ever been climbing on the outside of a one hundred and fifty foot skyscraper." Your boyfriend chuckled, lowering the two of you again. Surprisingly, the closer you got the ground, the scarier it was. Maybe it was the fact that and wind would sway you side to side.

"Fair enough, but hey I mean it's not that scary if you don't think about it." You furrowed your brows at his statement. "Don't think of it as being a hundred and fifty feet above the ground, just convince yourself that the ground is right below you." Interesting enough, that actually worked. Maybe not at first, but Clint never fails in cheering you up.

"It's kinda like Mission Impossible, huh?" you smile, the crushing fear of falling slowly fading.

You immediately hear Clint chuckle. "Yeah, kinda like Mission Impossible." With a new sense of excitement overcoming you, you were about to reply when suddenly everything changed on a dime. Suddenly the rope, your rope, gave way.

Without a second to think about it, you were falling through the air, staring up at your boyfriend and your limp rope. It was like you couldn't even scream, like the air had been taken from your lungs. It was like everything was going in slow motion, with the shock and pure terror that your worst fear had come true.

Above you, Clint frantically scrambled to grab a hold of your rope. It was lucky he did before the rope was unreachable to him. His arm buckled when he caught it, suspending you in the air but not for long. When the rope straightened, you went flying through the window in front of you. The shattering glass cut against your skin, and your figure tumbled across the abandoned and dark office floor.

You let out a groan in pain, and you heard someone else's that wasn't your own. Looking up through foggy vision, you saw Clint crumpled on the ground near you. He was in better shape, having not been thrown through glass, and crawled his way over to you. His worry painted face hovered above your own when you shifted onto your back .

"Are you okay? Baby, are you okay?" The concern in his voice was comforting, and you were okay, but the blow knocked the wind out of you. That, and the soul crushing fact that you were about to die, restricted the use of words. So you just let out a laugh. Clint looked shocked, and concerned that you were laughing.

"That didn't happen in Mission Impossible," you breathed through laughter.

"I thought, I thought you were going to die I thought...I thought I was about to lose you," Clint basically whispered. You only laughed harder. You were positive it was the shock and trauma. Despite being terrified, Clint's face started to form a smile. "Stop, stop laughing this isn't funny!" Clint said through laughs. "I thought I was going to lose you!"

Before he could say anything else, you wrapped your hand behind his neck and pressed your lips to his. He smirked through the kiss and pulled away smiling. Clint pressed his forehead to yours lovingly, and ran his thumb over your cheek. "You'll have to do a lot more to get rid of me," you smiled.
