"Mom, this is ridiculous!" You complained. Your mom glared at you. "Don't speak to me like that young lady!" She bit her lip in anger. You crossed your arms over your chest, a growl ripped from your throat. Standing in the supermarket wasn't exactly the best place to have a fight with your mum.
"I don't understand why you're so mad at me!" You clenched your fists, squeezing until your knuckles were turning white.
"Ever since we got here you've complained, (Y/N)! That's all you've done!" You mom yelled, "I can't deal with this! I need you to just accept that we are not going home and we never will be! Why is that so hard?"
You felt like you'd been smacked. "How could you say that?" You whispered.
"It's the truth, (Y/N)!" Your mum was still screaming.
"No it's not!" You raised your voice, "This will never be my home! Why can't you see how hard this is for me! I miss my home... my real home! I miss my friends. I can't even speak Swedish! And do you know what? The only friend I have here is Jack!"
Your mum rolled her eyes. "Here we go about Jack again! He's not real (Y/N)!" She had crossed the line. Anger swelled within you. "Fine," You said, eyes wide, "I don't care if you don't believe in him. I do and nothing you say can change that." You let your hands drop limply to your sides, "I'm sorry I couldn't have been a better daughter but before you yell at me, maybe you should think about why I'm mad in the first place." You whispered the last part as you watched your mum's face will with rage, ready to explode. You didn't wait for her to say anything. You turned and stomped out of the shop, hands thrust in your pockets angrily.
❅ ❄ ❆
You sat in the snow, oblivious to the fact that you were shaking and your lips were a pale blue. After leaving the shop you didn't know where to go and so you just walked until you ended up here, at the edge of a forest. You looked up at the setting sun and sighed. Your mum would be worried sick but you refused to go home. How could you? All she'd do would be to yell at you all over again and you couldn't deal with that. Not yet.
"I wish I was home." You sighed as the rest of the sun disappeared over the horizon, coating the town in darkness. You wrapped your arms around yourself. Despite not feeling the cold... or anything in this moment... it was an instinctive move and it comforted you a bit.
"(Y/N)?" You closed your eyes, biting your lip as you heard the familiar voice of the winter spirit.
"Go away, Jack." You said, completely emotionlessly.
"I've been worried sick! Your mum came home without you and-"
"So she hasn't even been looking for me." You sighed. Jack suddenly appeared, dropping beside you and wrapping his arms around you. You leant into him, a single tear escaping.
"Why didn't you come home?" Jack asked.
"It was just a fight." You whispered, "That's it... but she didn't even come after me." Your voice cracked. Jack's grip tightened around you. "I'm so sorry." He whispered, unsure what to say. "You know things like this happen... I guess you could say it's kind of like a big part of an adventure and for the adventure to be fun you have to have something go wrong."
You glanced up at him, completely stunned. "What's gone wrong in your life?" You whispered.
Jack raised an eyebrow, chuckling. "Umm... How about the fact I died or that Pitch tried to kill me multiple times. There's good and bad in everyone's lives, (Y/N)... I met you and that was great."
"What happened to the cocky winter spirit?" You chuckled.
"He-" Fell in love Jack wanted to say but how could he? He's the spirit of fun and he wasn't even sure what he felt was being in love. He used to think of you as a sister but now... He couldn't explain what he felt... "He's still here but right now you don't need him." Jack pulled you onto his lap, wrapping his arms around you.
"You always say the right things." You smirked.
"Do I?" Jack raised an eyebrow, "Well I am naturally good with words."
"Oh, he's back."
"Who?"
"The cocky winter spirit." You laughed. Jack laughed with you. "Don't you think you should go home?" He asked.
"I don't want to see my mom." You sighed. Jack raised an eyebrow again and rolled his eyes. "Why would you have to see her?" He asked.
"Front door?" You questioned.
"(Y/N)... I can fly-"
You chuckled. "What's that got to do with anything?" You asked.
"Well, you have a window don't you?" Jack smirked.
