As Baron left you, you were reminded of the time you had lost Daniel. No, he hadn't been your boyfriend... but he had been close. The last time you had seen him was the night before you moved. And now, months later, the pain was just as real as it had been at the time.
You smiled, staring up at the countless stars as they shone brightly in the night sky.
'(Y/N)?' You turned to face Daniel, a boy with messy brown hair and brown eyes. A boy you had grown to love.
'Yeah?' You asked, a grin covering your face from ear to ear. He looked nervous, cheeks a light shade of red. 'There's something I need to tell you-'
You rolled your eyes. 'Daniel, what haven't you told me?' You sat up, using your arms to support you as you watched the boy curiously. The red in his cheeks increased. 'I... err... well not this.' He started fiddling with his thumbs.
You smiled at him. 'Shoot.' You smirked; remembering the expression Jack had used so many times.
'Well I wanted to tell you that I... umm... I really like you (Y/N).' Daniel awkwardly brushed the hair out of his face as he looked for a reaction. You were stunned, not sure what to say. 'Well... I... err-' You could already feel your cheeks tingeing red.
'Don't say anything.' Daniel pressed his finger to your lips, 'You're moving tomorrow.' He sighed, looking down and dropping his finger, 'I just had to tell you... at least once.'You wished you had been able to tell him you liked him as well... maybe things would be different now. You hadn't talked to him since... and now, watching Baron leave, you wished you had.
You could barely resist the urge to run after Baron but you knew he would just drag you back and leave again. As Baron disappeared in the shadows, you felt a pang in your chest and slowly your knees buckled and you were forced to your knees. You didn't cry. You just sat, staring ahead.
You stayed sitting, well after the sun had set and eventually you felt a hand on your arm. You shrugged it off, hating the feeling of being forced back to reality.
'(Y/N)?' Hiccup's voice was gentle, full of worry.
'What.' You didn't mean to say it harshly, but it was. You looked up at Hiccup apologetically. 'Sorry-' You whispered. Hiccup sighed and sat beside you. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer. You leant against him, reveling in his warmth. You hadn't realised how cold you were. And then you remembered-
'He's gone.' You whispered.
'I know.' Hiccup's grip around you tightened. You didn't have the confidence to ask him how he knew, and you certainly didn't want the answer.
'He said he's going to save me.' You whispered, 'He said I make his life worth living.' Hiccup's grip tightened even more but you didn't mind. 'That's sweet.' Hiccup said. You could tell his spoke through gritted teeth.
'Hiccup what did I do?' You yelled, pulling yourself out of his grip.
'What do you mean?' Stunned at your outburst, Hiccup just watched you stand. Tears streamed down your cheeks as you finally came to terms with what had happened.
'It's my fault he left.' You whispered.
'No!' Hiccup exclaimed, jumping to his feet. 'It's not.' He walked towards you and reached up. He brushed your cheek, wiping away the tears. You closed your eyes as pain gripped you.
'Hey guys!' You heard a familiar voice and then arms wrapped around your waist, lifting you and spinning you around. You have to admit you did smile when you saw Jack, but it was short-lived.
'What's wrong?' Jack's smile turned to a frown.
'Baron left.' That was all you were able to say.
'What why?' Jack looked at Hiccup.
'He said he was going to find Marcus.' Hiccup whispered. He glanced at you, seeing the hurt the words caused you. 'Look come inside and I'll explain it to you.'
Jack nodded and they moved inside, leaving you standing, looking out into the distance. Your mind raced. How were you going to save Baron? You were going to save him... no matter what. And honestly that scared you... What if you weren't strong enough? What if you were too late? What if Marcus had already hurt him... or worse, killed him. You had to think of a way to find him or you had to try. You made up your mind, turning and running into the cave. Jack and Hiccup looked up in surprise as you sprinted towards them.
'(Y/N)-'
'Don't talk.' You raised your hand, silencing them. Panting, you started talking. 'This is going to sound crazy...' You breathed, 'But I'm going after Baron-'
'What!' They screamed. You held up your hand. 'You can't stop me!' You yelled, 'But you can come with me.'
The boys looked at each other for a second, both knowing that you weren't going to change your mind. They stared, weighing the options and then slowly, they nodded.
