You screamed but there was nothing you could do. Enoch, the dragon, wrapped its talons around Hiccup, lifting him up into the air at lightening speed. All you could do was watch, and scream.
Marcus had a wicked smirk on his face. 'Kill him.' He said it simply, voice free of emotion, without a care and without any mercy.
But you barely heard him. 'Hiccup!' The boy was tossed across the room, hitting the wall with a force that would've shattered all the bones in his body if it weren't for the armour he wore.
You ripped yourself out of Jack's arms, running towards the fallen boy. You don't know how you managed it, but somehow Hiccup gave you strength. You fell to your knees beside the boy, using your body as a shield as you pulled him behind you.
'(Y/N).' Hiccup mumbled, 'Run.'
You looked up at the huge dragon, the familiarity of it overwhelming you. It was the dragon from the cave... the one you and your friends had barely managed to escape. The only reason you had was because Enoch had been bound to the island. But he wasn't anymore. He was going to kill you.
'You think I'm going to leave you?' You mumbled, tears starting to fill your eyes.
'You have to.' Hiccup was starting to sound desperate despite speaking through gritted teeth.
You shook your head, a single tear sliding down your face. 'I'd never leave you.' You whispered.
Hiccup hesitated. 'I'm going to be alright, but I need you to go.'
Again you shook your head. A vicious growl ripped through you. You looked up at the dragon, a massive glare on your face. 'Would you SHUT UP!' You screamed. The dragon hesitated. You turned to face Hiccup. 'I'm in love with you Hiccup.' You whispered, 'And being there for someone when they need you... that's all love is.' You paused, taking in a deep breath. 'For all I know this could be my last chance to show you that I love you and for me... dying is worth it.'
A tear ran down Hiccup's cheek. You reached up, wiping it away. The dragon had finally recovered, another deep growl escaping. You didn't want to scream at it again, couldn't believe that you had. Instead you took Hiccup's hand, looking deep into his eyes. The dragon was moving closer. You closed your eyes, sighing, before opening them again.
You smirked. 'Personally, I'm a serious fan of ignoring a problem until, eventually, it just goes away.'
Hiccup might have cracked a smile. You held onto that smile as Hiccup pulled you against him, burying his face in your hair. You held each other for a moment, listening to the breathing and growls of the dragon, waiting for Marcus to give the order to kill you.
'Have you heard of Peter Pan?' You asked. Hiccup shrugged, 'I wish.'
You smiled. 'Never say goodbye, because saying goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.'
You pulled away from him, facing the dragon. Hiccup drew in a deep breath. 'I'll never forget.'
Suddenly a piercing scream filled the room. The dragon reared back, groaning, and it started thrashing around. You looked around the room, eyes resting on Marcus. His eyes were wide, shock written on his face. Then he- or his body crumpled forward, revealing Jack. He stood with a dagger in his hand, mouth in a grim line.
Beside you, Enoch snarled, howled and then moved towards the mouth of the cave. He didn't make it far, a huge scream torn from his throat as he fell to the ground, following in the footsteps of Marcus.
Tears flooded down your cheeks. Jack ran towards you, falling beside you both and throwing his arms around you. You held each other close, crying and laughing as you looked at Marcus's fallen figure.
'How?' You asked.
Jack didn't answer. He grinned. And just like that the battle was over, and the story had almost reached its end.
