"Wait, hunting us?" Jack inquired Hiccup as he hopped down from the tree. Hiccup was the first one to get off, and now you're the last one. "Are you saying that someone sent that thing after us?"
"Probably," Hiccup replied, his mouth set in a grim line. "And 'that thing', is a wolf. A very vicious one to be in fact."
"Yea, thanks for pointing out the obvious." Jack simply rolled his eyes before looking up at you; you still gripped tightly onto one of the branches of the tree, afraid that you'll fall, and that would be a long fall...
"(Y/N)!" Jack called out to you. "You ready?"
"Um, can there be another way to get down, without me jumping down and break all my bones?" you shouted so he could hear you from the distance.
Jack inhaled and gave you a warm smile, opening his arms wide. "Don't worry, I'll catch you. I promise you won't break any bones."
You hesitated for a moment, then finally gave in to the idea and released your hold on the branch and jumped down. The jump was harsh and incredibly terrifying. You were never good with heights, so this just makes it all the more scary.
Jack's arms were outstretched as they had seconds ago, and you fell perfectly into him. He let out a faint grunt as you did, but pulled you into another hug later. "I'm proud of you." He mumbled quietly into your ear, he knew that you were scared of heights; he knew everything about you... well, almost.
"Thanks." You smiled back and wrapped your arms around him as well.
You didn't want the hug to end; it felt so comforting... Even though Jack was cold as ice, you could still feel the warmth of his gesture and the best part, the memories. Every time Jack pulls you into a hug, or the other way around, you'll always get the rush of past memories flooding back into your brain. It was like a slideshow, flashing images of all the sweet and happy times you had with your family... and him. He was a part of you, he always has been, and you know that he always will.
But then, a fierce pain spiked up from your side, causing you to jerk away from Jack's embrace. You groaned in unbearable pain as you wrapped your arms firmly around your side. You felt something wet dripping from it, and when you glanced down, it was no surprise that the bandage that covered your wound was soaking in crimson blood.
Jack and Hiccup were staring in absolute horror at the sight, and you did too. You opened your mouth to speak, but it weren't words that came out, it was blood. You began choking on the blood as it continued to drip out.
"(Y/N)!" Hiccup said, worriedly. "D-don't worry! I, I have medicine back with Toothless... or at least something that could help..."
You didn't reply, that's because you physically couldn't. You were choking uncontrollably on your own blood and your head was starting to feel dizzy from the loss of it.(Y/N)...
A quiet, raspy voice spoke.
(Y/N)...
It called out again, but it wasn't either Jack or Hiccup... It was someone else.
Hiccup had already dashed back to find Toothless, and now there's only Jack who stood in front of you, watching you with a look that seemed like a mixture of worry and terror. "(Y/N), d-don't move, okay? Everything's gonna be alright, trust me, (Y/N), you can get through this." He reached out a hand, but you raised yours to stop him from coming any closer. You didn't want him to see you like this... so weak... so vulnerable... It's pathetic!
(Y/N)... I can help you...
There it was again, the faceless voice that belonged to no one.
I know how to help you... It whispered, as though it didn't want anyone else to hear... and maybe, it didn't. I know how to save you...
"Just stay calm, (Y/N), you're going to get through this!" Jack kept on saying, as a stressful attempt to distract you from the pain. It was disgusting, your whole mouth tasted of blood... of iron...
(Y/N)... I can help you... Let me help you...
You wanted to reply to the mysterious voice, but you were too busy coughing up the blood that proceeded to ooze out of you. You had no idea if you were hallucinating, or it was actually real. But whatever it was, Jack seemed completely oblivious to it.
Just walk into the center of the woods... It spoke again. And I'll save you...
"God! What is taking Hiccup so long?" You heard Jack muttered under his breath.
Just walk into the woods, (Y/N)... alone...
You have to be alone...
I'll help you... I'll save you, (Y/N)...
All you have to do, is walk into the woods... alone...
A loud howl ripped the silent atmosphere of the scene, and followed by a dragon's cry. You and Jack both knew that moment that it was Toothless... something was wrong... Hiccup and Toothless were in trouble.
Panic rushed through Jack as he hastily said, "(Y/N), you stay here, don't move, don't go anywhere. I'll be back, I promise." And with that, he's off into the sky and assumingly searching for the viking and his dragon.
And that's also when the voice came back.
Walk into the woods... Go to the center... You'll be saved...
I'll help you... You will be cured...
Just walk into the woods...
Absentmindedly, you obeyed the voice. Pulling yourself up from the ground, you walked into the foggy direction that led to the woods, though still choking and coughing blood.
Yes... Come... I'll help you... I'll save you...
Then, you're into the dark, deserted woods... alone.
