"Wait, so... does that mean you're dead?" Jack questioned, you could hear the fright in his voice as he spoke.
You opened your mouth, but you were really unsure if you actually were. You didn't know much about the blade, you've only ever heard it in stories and myths. But you silently hoped that you weren't. You allowed your mouth to fall close and that's when Baron joined in on the conversation.
"No," he said, answering Jack's question. "Well, not yet anyway," he gave you a glance, his eyes filled with sympathy and concern, something you'd rarely see in someone like him. "The blade allows whoever's been stabbed, if not directly in the heart, to develop the sight to see spirits. But that's just one of the side effects, the long term effect is unbearable suffering and hallucinations which will slowly lead to actual death."
Your eyes widened; you had no idea Baron knew so much... "Then why did you stab me with it?!" you nearly shouted, rage flooded in your veins as an act of panic and frustration.
"I-I didn't know..." the blonde blurted apologetically.
"I-" you began, ready to yell at him because that's the only thing that you could think about doing at the moment, this is probably one of the other side effects that Baron had mentioned, complete loss of control over your own emotions. But a fierce pain shot through you're the side where Baron had stabbed you in and prevent you from continuing.
You felt your legs unbuckled under you and you almost collapsed onto the ground if it was not for Hiccup who caught you precisely one second before you fell smashing into the hard dirt. You started coughing and used a hand to cover your mouth, when you pulled it away, you saw fresh, red blood dripping from your palm.
Jack, Hiccup and Baron were all staring at you, worried expression worn securely on their faces. "Isn't there some way to stop it?" Hiccup asked Baron in a rather angry tone. "A cure or something?"
But Baron hesitantly shook his head. "I don't think there is... Or none that I'm aware of..."
Hiccup let out an exasperated grunt and pulled you into his arms so he was now carrying you. He turned over to Jack, "Frost, you get help." His voice serious and chief-like. "Maybe some of your guardian friends, or like you mentioned could have a clue or something about curing this."
Wasting no time, Jack nodded and soared into gloomy sky; letting the wind guide him. Hiccup then returned his attention to you, he was now carrying into the cave. He took cautious steps, his eyes never left yours.
When he'd got inside, he slowly bent down and gently placed you on the ground. His hands then reached forward and pulled the ragged blanket up to your chin, though it didn't provide much coverage from the cold.
"Hey, (Y/N)," you heard him mumbled, making your tired gaze over to him. "You're gonna be alright, okay? I promise."
You gave him a weak, lazy smile, because that's all you could manage. You felt your energy completely drained from you and you could barely blink your eyes. "Don't promise something that you can't keep."
He breathed in as he took your cold, shivering hands in his, rubbing them until they were vaguely warmer. He shook his head down at you, but it wasn't a shake of disappointment, it seemed more of a shake of disbelief. "You're not going to die, (Y/N)," he smiled, but you knew it was just to comfort you, because you could see past him, and on the inside, he was dying. "I'm not going to let you die, we haven't even gotten a chance to go on our second date yet." He attempted a joke and you tried to laugh... or at least chuckle.
"You're going to get through this, (Y/N)," he whispered, leaning his face forward to yours so now it's only inches apart. "You're strong."
"No, I'm not." You wanted to shake your head, but you were drained dry.
