144. Bitter and Sweet (Kai)

"Look at her," Kai says out loud, his eyes so focused towards the bar he failed to realise he was vocalising exactly what he was thinking within his head.

Kyungsoo, his best friend, furrowed his eyebrows looking at Kai's with a confused expression. He follows his pals line of sight and that's when he spots what Kai was so hung up on.

It was you.

You were sat at the bar. A slim fitting black cocktail dress, it plunging low at the front, revealing the luscious cleavage provided by your very expensive bra. His eyes grazed over your back, the back of your dress was nothing but lace from your neck all the way down to the small of your back, stopping just shy of your knicker line, a cute floral tattoo poking out from under the expensive fabric.

"Let it go, Kai," Kyungsoo muttered, patting his friend on the shoulder before taking a large gulp from his pint. "She's too high class for a small stage performer like you."

He knew Kyungsoo was right. Kai was only just getting by as he was on the minimum wage job he had as a pub performer. There was no way he could afford to make you happy. "You'd need 3 jobs to satisfy her needs," Kyungsoo scoffed.

"I'd get a dozen jobs if it meant she'd be happy," Kai answered back, his eyes still focused upon your face.

Kyungsoo swigged down the last of his drink before hollering for the bar tender to bring him over his next free pint. "At least performing in shitty pubs like this gets you all the free booze you can dream of," Kyungsoo cackled, trying to get every single drop of cheap beer from the bottom of his glass onto his tongue.

"I don't want free beer," Kai exclaimed and glared at Kyungsoo, pointing his finger over in your direction. "I want her!" Kai looked over at you again through the corner of his eye, watching you sip your Tequila Sunrise through a curly straw. Kai took three long deep breaths. Reached over and yanked Kyungsoo's pint right out from under his nose, the older lad giving his younger friend a scowl as he watched Kai chug down the full, bitter tasting beer all in one go. "Wish me luck," Kai spoke, his voice shaky with nerves.

"Don't be an idiot, Jongin!" Kyungsoo growled low in his throat.

Kai stood up, dusted off his cheap black suit, put his hand up to his mouth and gave his breath a tester, huffed out a full lungs worth of air and straightened his blazer.

At first his walk towards you was strong and proud, but with each step closer, his posture started to sink lower and lower, his shoulders rounding, his strong steps turning into something more along the lines of a scuffle, his nerves showing in his youthful, handsome face.

He had watched you turn man after man down. Rich men. Men with silver rolex's wrapped around their wrists, solid gold cuff links and crisp, clean, newly tailored suits. 'This is a bad idea,' he thought to himself and was just about to turnaround but your eyes turned to lock with his.

He stopped. Dead. Your eyes were beautiful. Bright and big, little wrinkles forming around the edges as you smiled softly as him. "He-" Kai paused to clear his throat and spoke again in a deeper tone. "Hello, I was wondering if I could buy you a drink."

"Back off, mate," a tall, rich looking business man laughed, lifting a glass of expensive whiskey to his lips and sipping. "If I were you, I'd save my money up and get myself a decent pair of shoes."

Kai cringed, hiding his feet as best he could behind the barstool at his side. You scowled at the gentleman before softening your face into a smile which you flashed directly at Kai. "I would love a drink," you beamed. "Thank you." Your smile and gratitude was genuine. You had seen him glancing at you. His face was soft and sincere. His smile sweet and beautiful. His eyes full of life. You had hoped he would approach you.

He took a seat on the bar stool, secretly grinning when the rich, arrogant mans expression went from humoured to surprised.

He put his hand out towards you to shake. "My name is Kim Jongin."
