'Ding dong! The sound of your doorbell ringing had once signalled good news. It might have been a friend visiting, it a parcel...

But these days, it was like a knell to you. And you knew your parents felt the same way. Time stood still as you listened and waited for your Dad to answer the door.

'Please, no...'

Then, when you heard the familiar sound of your neighbour's voice, and you could breath again. It had been like this for the past year and a half, ever since your husband had gone away for his mandatory two year army service.

He had always been eager to serve his country, and you had, many times, had to convince him to not sign up early. You were all so very proud of him and tired his best to visit home on every holiday, the most recent being Christmas.

The best Christmas. Christmas Eve he had proposed, and that night, you had found out he'd planned the entire ceremony to happen on the 25th. The very next day.

"I want to spend forever with you," he had said. "And when my duty is over, I plan on starting our long happy life together."

And now, he was nearly due home. In three weeks his duty was up and you would be in his arms again. You'd only been married for three weeks but felt as though it had been a life time.

But... Things can happen when you least expect them. Unfortunately, this news was not in your favour.

At 11:30pm your mobile started to ring and you grumbled a sleepy "hello" down the speaker.

"Minseok has been in an accident," Jongdae, your husbands greatest friend cried. "We are at the hospital."

As you rushed straight there, you tried to stay as calm as possible, thousands of options of what could have happened to him whizzing through your head. "Minseok is strong, he will be okay," you kept telling yourself.

At the hospital, Jongdae, yours and Minseok's parents, as well as four more of your husbands closest friends had been ushered into the waiting room by frantic nurses.

Finally, when the doctor appeared, his face holding a deep apologetic frown, your heart started to sink before his words had even left his mouth.

"I'm sorry," he started. "We did everything we could."

'What? No!' How could your husband possibly be gone. He'd survived two years in the army, and a week before he is due back home off duty, he decided to jump in front of a bullet to save his Commanding Officer.

Devastated, you said your goodbyes, and a week after the funeral you found yourself at his parents house for lunch, where you found yourself raiding the biscuit tin. You didn't normally have a sweet tooth but you suddenly craved sugar.

'Ah, a Twix,' you smiled, peeking back the shiny golf wrapper, biting down into the chocolaty, caramel biscuit heaven. Minseok's mum walked into the kitchen just as your faint smile dropped into a frown as a strong sickening feeling washed over you, your stomach flinching as your ran for the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet.

"Sweetie, are you okay?" your mother-in-law soothed as she placed a gentle hand on your back, her fingers gently removing your hair and holding it out of your face.

"I... I think so," you muttered weakly as you stood up, flushed and proceeded to rinse your mouth. "Sorry mum, but could you give me a minute?"

Minseok's mother smiled as you called her like your own mum, her heart swelling as she smiled and left you to sit on the edge of the bath. Your eyes spotted the scales poking out from behind the sink and as if some sort of instinct came upon you, you moved over and stepped up onto it.

Gasping as you watched the little needle point at '10 stone'. "Oh my gosh," you cried. Quickly rushing from Minseok's parents house you ran all the way down to road to the small pharmacy. Paying for the small rectangular box, wincing at the ridiculously high price as you handed the cash over.

You never thought you'd ever run as fast as you did that day, locking yourself in the bathroom when your mother-in-law followed you up the stairs with a worries expression.

That had to be the longest three minutes of your life. Your eyes bulged, your jaw dropping as two blue lines appeared before your eyes. "Positive?" You mumbled, standing up off the toilet lid with shaky knees. You slowly opened the bathroom door to find Minseok's mum waiting for you anxiously, worry plastered across her face.

"_______, what is it?"

"It looks like Minseok has managed to give us one more gift, even now." You looked deep into her eyes as you held up your hand. "I'm pregnant."
