A/N: Happy Valentines Day!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Warm tears flowed freely down your flushed cheeks, your eyes squeezed shut trying to think of a way to block out the emotional pain. Wrapping your quivering arms around your shins you pulled your legs up to hug them against your heaving chest, the salty droplets your eyes oozed making their way to soak the fabric of your grey skinny jeans, the denim turning a deep black, the cold kitchen tiles giving you shivers.
*Black like his heart* you thought coldly, feeling your heart thump as an image of his beautiful face popped into your mind. Shaking your head violently you managed to dismiss those thoughts for a couple of seconds, only to have them flood back when you looked down at the crumpled red letter held in your right hand. "What did I ever do to you."
~oOo~
With shaky hands your reached out and let the delicate tips of your fingers tap against the cotton on his shoulder. He continued to talk with his friend before he slowly turned around to look at you with his deep eyes, cold and emotionless but still so very beautiful.
"H-hey," you stuttered, nervously tucking a stand of hair behind your ear.
"Hello?" he said monotonously, one of his eyebrows raised as he looked at you blackly. "May I help you?"
You opened your mouth but the only sound that formed off your tongue was a strangled, "here," as you shoved a folded piece of blood red paper in his direction, his hands reaching up to grab it. Unfolding the paper his black eyes skimmed across the poem you had taken hours to write, your hopeful smile dropping when he looked at you and scowled.
"What the heck is this?"
"A... a poem."
He proceeded to scrunch the paper up into a tight ball, a gasp escaping past your lips when he let it drop to his feet. "Sorry sweetheart," he muttered, his voice cold as stone. "I really couldn't care about how you feel."
~oOo~
Your heart still ached as you unraveled the paper and read over your poem, wondering what the hell you could have done wrong. You averted your gaze out the window, looking up at the bright blue sky, a soft blanket of fluffy white clouds floating through the endless vast of turquoise. "Joonmyun, I need you," you mumbled so quietly the words nearly almost didn't sound.
A mist of bright white smoke formed in the centre of the kitchen, several white feathers floating around in the air, a soft giggle escaping past your lips what one landed on your nose and ticked your skin.
Emerging from the mist was a beautiful man, his milky skin seeming to glow in the sunlight, his great white wings flapping several times before they elegantly folded behind his back. "You called?" he cheered, flashing you that beautiful, angelic smile.
Dropping down at your side he let his arm wrap around your shoulders, pulling you closer so your head dropped onto his shoulder. "What did Sehun do this time?" he asked, knowing full well about your feelings for the college flower boy, hating that way your feelings were directed towards somebody that would never deserve or appreciate them.
You just handed him the crumpled paper and Joonmyun's eyes narrowed. "He did this?" You merely nodded your head, watching as Joonmyun flattened out the paper and read the message, his heart fluttering in his chest, his wings flapping behind him as he imagined those beautiful words being directed towards himself. "This is beautiful, _______."
You forced a smile and let out a weak, "Thanks," before taking the paper back, throwing it across the kitchen to bounce off the wall and land in the bin, Joonmyun pulling an impressed expression at your accuracy.
"What should I do?" you muttered, letting your fingers lace with Joonmyun's soft ones, his skin tingling at your gentle touch.
Joonmyun shrugged his shoulders and let his free hand move up to dry your cheeks. "Move on. That's all you can do."
You smiled at his honesty, you had always been thankful that you had gotten him as a guardian, not knowing what you would do without him. The truth was, you loved him, but Joonmyun himself had once mentioned that this kind of love was forbidden; the love between themselves and their guardian.
"All the best things are," you muttered to yourself, caught deep in your thoughts.
Joonmyun twitched a little, looking down at you with wide eyes. "The best things are what?"
"Forbidden."
Joonmyun nodded in agreement, knowing exactly what you were talking about, having been your guardian for so many years he had learnt to read you like the open pages of a book. A beautifully written novel with so many awful twists he didn't think it was fare for such a sweet girl to undertake them.
"Want to hear something silly?" he giggled, nudging your side with his elbow, earning a little chuckle from you. You nodded your head and looked up into his bright eyes, them sparkling like stars, reflecting every beam of light like a diamond. "When I was first assigned as your angel, I was confused."
"Why?" you questioned, shuffling a little closer to his side.
"Because when I first saw you, I went straight back." Your heart sank a little, the thoughts of maybe Joonmyun didn't want you either rushing through your head.
*I want this* He thought. *I want to be normal* Joonmyun sighed heavily and let his head drop to rest against yours. "I had wondered why he assigned me to look over you, when angels don't watch over other angels."
A single joyous tear formed in your eye, staring into his deep enticing eyes with nothing but glee, and without thinking and no hesitation, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, letting your fingers run across his smooth white feathered wings. "I love you," he mumbled into your shoulder.
With tears rolling down your cheeks you muttered the words back to him, you fingers still combing through his feathers.
Your eyes widened, the breath catching in your throat when a clump of white quills fell out to cluster in your palm. Staring at the gathering of feathers in your palm you fell back onto the floor, Joonmyun looking at you with worry. You showed him your hand, his expression going from confused to understanding in a split second. "I knew this would happen," he spoke with a happy smile.
"What?" you gasped. Looking around him you spotted feather and feather float down to the ground, his wings becoming bald as the beautiful white covering fell away. "Joonmyun, your wings!" you gasped.
"I know," he said softly. "I welcome it."
"Welcome what?" you screamed out of fear, wondering what the hell could be happening. "What's going on!"
"I'm becoming moral," was all he said at that moment, him standing up off the floor and pulling you up with him. "When an angel confesses his love for a human, they risk the chance of becoming mortal." You furrowed your eyebrows, still clutching his feathers. "Humans have the concept all wrong," he muttered with a giggle as he lifted one of the feathers from your palm, twirling it about between his fingers. "Angels aren't sent to just guard any random human. We are born to watch over a single person. I'm what you humans call a soul mate." He smiled and tucked a strand of your hair behind your ear. "I was born to love you, but I couldn't become moral without you loving me back."
"You mean..." you started pausing when Joonmyun took a step closer, his hand cupping your cheek. "You're human, because I told you that I love you." He nodded, his lips moving down to press against your forehead. "But, you're mortal now, you could..." Your words froze in your throat, but Joonmyun understood.
He held your cheeks, lifting your face to lock hi ms soft lips with yours, butterflies exploding in every corner of your stomach, firework setting off in your chest and every nerve in your body tingled at his touch. "I'd rather spend a life with you, than an eternity without."
