A silent tear rolled its way down your damp cheek, it leaving a grey watered-down streak of eyeliner in its wake. It dropped off your chin to slash against the satin cloth, joining the other many tears you had shed in that hour and a half.

"He won't be long."

"He is on his way."

"I'm sorry but please give me ten more minutes."

You were finally out of excuses to tell the waiter, and when you spotted him walk aver towards you for the twentieth time that night you knew it was time to leave. "I'm sorry, ma'am. But we have a reservation due for this table in five minutes."

"Okay," you sniffed as you rotated the bottom of the half full wine glass against the restaurant table, an embarrassed blush set against your cheeks. Gathering your small shoulder bag up off the floor you set it upon the table as you stood and smiled weakly at the waiter.

"I shall go and retrieve your coat, Miss."

You sighed heavy heartedly. You knew your boyfriend would be a little late, he had told you so. (Babe, I'm gonna be ten minutes late, just got to go through tomorrow's schedule with the boys. Love you x)

You had stared at those last two words for the past hour, the normal tingling, butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling not appearing. All you got was regret and disappointment. You had waited at that table for nearly two hours, and had thought of leaving many times, your head telling you that it wasn't worth it and he wouldn't show, but your heart had pulled your backside back down onto the cushion every time you went to leave, convincing you to give him an extra fifteen minutes wait.

Still, he didn't show.

Grabbing your coat from the waiter, you swigged back the remainder of your crisp white wine and slung your bag over your shoulder carelessly, glumly making your way out of the restaurant, avoiding the sympathetic gazes of the couples around you watching you leave.

"Thanks," you said to the doorman halfheartedly as he held the door open for you. Stepping out into the bitter winter night breeze you pulled the collar of your coat up around your nose and cheeks, protecting your frail skin from the bitter bites of the wind. You let the tears flow freely, them stinging as the icy wind froze them to your skin, the water burning as it trailed down to soak into your long black hair.

"________?" A deep voice called out in a shocked tone. Twisting your head round you found him stood on the far side of the pavement staring at you with sad eyes, his body turned in the direction of the restaurant. "What are you doing?"

"I'm going home," you muttered bitterly, turning back round to walk in the direction of your shared apartment.

"Why?"

"I got kicked out of the restaurant, Chanyeol. I waited two hours for you." He trailed after you, rolling your shoulder violently when you felt his hand grip it. In a sorrowful mess you made the quick decision to dart across the road, desperately trying to hold back the tears forming behind your eyes.

In that moment, time seemed to come to a standstill. The pained cries of your boyfriend surrounding you like a thick rope and ordering you to turn back round to face the road. It was only when the cars full beams were flicked off did you see him.

Chanyeol lay before the vehicle, black bruises and a thick splattering of blood covering his quivering frame. His name rolled off your tongue as a broken scream, your knees wobbling as you dashed to his side, dropping to the concrete, your shaky hands hovering over his heaving chest.

"Give me your hand," Chanyeol wheezed, squeezing his eyes closed to help him plunder through the pain stabbing him in the chest as he spoke, his breathing coming up short.

Obliging, you reached your hands out and his big hand clasped your smaller ones, his free hand digging into his pocket to pull out a small parcel. Turning your palms over he set the rectangular box in you palm and flipped it open to reveal a pair of necklaces. Each one was a diamond cut in half, and when set together they formed the shape of a perfect heart. "This is the reason I was late. I went to get the diamond I bought cut to make these."

A fit of raspy coughs took over Chanyeol, his throat stinging as he inhaled deep amounts of air into his starving lungs. "Chanyeol, stop talking," you ordered and pulled his hand up to place a kiss against his knuckles. "Save your breath."

"If I had to choose-" he started, only to stop to inhale heavily. "Between breathing and talking to you..." He paused for a second time, his pain evident in his eyes. "I would use my last breath.. to tell you one thing."

Tears started to stream down your cheeks and you bent down to press your forehead to Chanyeol's, feeling his hot breath warm up your frozen cheeks. "What... what would you tell me."

He removed one of his hands from yours to tuck your tear soaked strands of wind swept hair behind your ear, his delicate touch leaving a tingling trail behind. "I would tell you how much I love you."
