"What's your name?" I asked her. She smiled as she looked at the ocean happily. Her eyes shined and laid them on me.

"Is that important now? I'm having a good time with you, I've never been this calm or happy in a while." She answered. I raised an eyebrow confused.

"May I know the reason?" She sighed and looked at the ocean again. The wind blew while her hair was flying along with her dress.

"My own self doesn't let me, my brain  tells me to stop what I'm doing to rethink my life, and that makes me sad and emotional. It's not that I'm not happy with it, it's just that there are times where yourself is not ready for what's coming next." I became speechless. I'd have never think like her if I didn't meet her. She saw the world like no one else taught me.

"I feel like a butterfly, an ugly one to be exact, flying across the beautiful ones and thinking I'm not good enough and my wings doesn't let me go higher. But now that I'm with you, I feel like I can be myself around you." She said. She turned her gaze to the ground watching her bare feet playing with the sand. I stared at her analyzing her words. What's wrong with her that's not making her happy?

"It's nice to hear that, it feels good to make another person's day brighter." I told her. Once again, she looked at me with that mesmerizing glim in her eyes.

She got up surprised and started running to the hotels near the beach. My eyes were wide and I tried to reach her.

"At least tell me where you live!" I yelled. She pointed towards the biggest building and made the number '151' with her hands. She smiled once again and left me there, thinking and thinking.

From that day, I called her the butterfly girl, because she reminded me my favorite one: the Monarch butterfly. Pretty mainstream and cheesy, right? But I like it that way.

I used to leave a bouquet flowers along with a fake Monarch butterfly and a hand-written letter by me in front of her door. I knew she received it when the receptionist of the hotel she lived, Melody, called me to notify me.

Yes, I'm really cheesy.

I never knew her name, neither the receptionist told me. I never saw her in person again also, but Melody always told me that she said I was an amazing boy, that she'd love me to see me again but she couldn't, which made myself confused. What was wrong with seeing me again?

Until that day.

I was at my dance studio, starting a new lesson for my students. My friends were also teachers at the studio so they helped me whenever I had an emergency. Anyways, I almost finished the lesson when my phone ringed. I'm not the type of person to answer it in class, but I knew I had to. It was Melody, the receptionist.

"Jongin, I need you to go to the hospital from the next block, it's an emergency." Melody cried. I froze in my place.

"What happened Melody?" I asked frustrated.

"Just go already Jongin, go before it's late, it's your Butterfly Girl!" She cried again. My heart skipped a beat and my breathing stopped. Once I felt my soul entering my body, I hung up and looked for Yixing.

I ran past the office throwing him the keys of the studio.

"End the class, please, something happened." I yelled from my car while starting the engine. He just nodded and went back to the room.

I was driving as fast as I could, not caring if I was skipping the red light sometimes. My head wasn't in the road with all thoughts surrounding me. When I finally arrived to the hospital, I got out of the car and ran towards the inside of the building. I found Melody crying in a corner. I made my way to where she was and poked her shoulder.

"Where is she?" I asked softly. She looked at me, her mascara was ruined, her eyes red and her hair was a mess.

"Floor 5, room 68, go before it's late." She said and went back to crying.

I walked to the elevator and pressed the number '5'. When I got to the floor, I jogged to the room. There was a nurse writing notes on some papers. She looked at me and smiled softly.

"Are you Jongin?" She asked me. I nodded. She opened the door to reveal my Butterfly Girl. My heart broke in pieces.

She was lying on a bed, tons of machines by her side and her wig was on a chair. She looked at me surprised.

"Jongin I-"

I ran towards her and kneel down. "Why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you say that you were sick?" Her eyes started to get watery and a sob escaped from her mouth. She took in air.

"I'm Valerie, I have cancer, breast cancer to be exact. I have your age, and I didn't tell you so you didn't have to worry about a stupid sick person. These are my last days, and when I met you, I thought you didn't had to suffer my pain, I wasn't thinking that you liked me, until now." She paused while sitting up. She gasped and started crying in her hands. I sat beside her and hugged her. She cried on my shoulder for a long while until her breathing came back to normal.

"Hey, look at me." I put my fingers under her chin and made her look me straight in the eyes. "I'm happy that I met you, and I won't tell you the mainstream lines of 'you should have told me before'. I want to be these days with you, okay?" And with that, I kissed her, the sweetest kiss of all. She kissed back and laid her hands of my shoulders.

I felt butterflies in my stomach for the first time ever. I felt like if I was flying.

I was feeling loved.

We broke the kiss. I stared at her beautiful eyes. She was stunning even without make up.

"I love you." I said.

"I love you, too." She muttered. She let out her last breath and fell in my arms.

I panicked and started crying. I was yelling her name even though it looked pathetic. The last thing I remember, is that the doctors kicked me out of the room until the gave me the worst news for me.

"She's gone."

I ran back to the room and hugged her cold body. I cried like if there was no tomorrow, like if there stars where falling. She looked so weak and harmless in my arms, it broke my heart even more.

I stayed with her body, muttering once in a while an 'I love you'.

It has been a year since Valerie left me. I'm not the type to put my problems first and letting people feel bad for me. I kept going with my life.

I was visiting once again the beach where I met Valerie. I sat on the same bench we talked for hours and looked at the sunset. It was nice for a picture, so I took my phone out and put the camera on, but suddenly, a girl in an beautiful orange dress sat beside me. She had a jar with a butterfly inside it. She turned her face to me and smiled.

"What is a cute little girl doing alone in this beach at these hours?" I asked her as I put back my phone in my pocket.

"I lost my parents, they were at a party so I decided to go and take some fresh air." She answered.

"What's your name? I should take you to your parents." I told her.

"Valerie, but my best friend, Melody, calls me Butterfly Girl."
