Chapter 7: Ayato's past and his grudge

Ayato's POV

Year 2000; Yokohama, Japan

"Naniga shi tai desu ka?" (What do you want?)

I heard mother talking with someone over the phone so I went back to my room and play. She always said never eavesdrop on other people's business.

I just stayed in my room for hours and waited for mother to come and play with me.

It's always like this. Me and my mother. I don't have a father, well, I do but I don't know him and I don't have any plans on meeting him.

My mother said he abandoned us. She said that she went to somewhere and promised to go back to us but didn't. And I hate such kind of people. I hate people who made promises but forgets it. Or should I say, I hate liars.

I'm happy with her, and she's more than enough. She worked hard every day and night just to get some penny and be able to send me to school.

I made a promise to myself that I'll never leave her as long as she holds on to me. I think she's sick but doesn't tell me she is.

I saw her some time taking pills but I didn't paid too much attention about it because she said it's just vitamins.

"Ayato." She said as she opens the door.

"Nandesu ka?" (What?)

She steps forward and sat beside me on the bed. She smiled weakly and strokes my reddish-brown hair. And I do have a bad feeling about what she's going to tell me.

"Anata ha tsuneni kimi akachairo no kamiwo aishi te ki ta shitte iru musuko." (You know I've always loved you red-brown hair, son.)

I didn't answer but stared at her for about a minute or two. I know that, she always told me that she love my hair but what is this all of a sudden?

"Saa, iki masho u." (Come on, let's go.)

Now I'm beginning to worry. It's already past 7 in the evening, where are we heading at this hour?

"Doko?" (Where?) I asked her but she didn't answer.

She held my hand and we went straight to her car. Her crappy car but this crappy car is full of memories. This is where we had our first fight when I went to school for the first time.

This is where I first cried in front of her when my classmates bullied me.

This is where I first said 'I love you' to her when she cried because she thought I was lost but was only playing hide and seek with her.

"Kono jikan ni doko ni iku ka?" (Where are we going at this hour?)

She just smiled at me while looking at the road, driving and didn't even bother to answer me. Psh!

I sat straight in a very irritable way and crossed my arms in front of my chest. And suddenly, we stopped in a house. I don't have any idea whose house is this.

Are we invited over dinner? But we had our dinner at home.

She opens the car door for me and I was amazed by the sight of the big house. I think the owner's rich. Very rich. It's a perfect dream house.

I smiled in amusement as we enter the gate of the mansion. It's not a typical Japanese house. I didn't know that there's a house like this in Japan.

"Shi no Eru Gureko ga anata wo matte i masu." (Mr. El Greco is waiting for you.)

I heard a woman said to my mother and she smiled in response. We went straight to the living room I think and it's very huge.
