Yumi’s POV

I hid myself in the unit I bought when I first came here, or should I say the unit bought by Maiko Fujiwara. Oh yes, I remembered everything. Crystal clear, with no details left out.

Pagbabalik tanaw…

I was running myself towards the mansion of the El Greco since I forgot my planner and everything I need to do was written there. I hurriedly run with my heels on only to stop when someone called me using a very familiar name—Yumi.

I turned my head to find a woman on her mid 30’s as she ran to me and hugged me like she’d missed me for a lifetime. And who’s this? I asked myself in distraught as I looked at her with amusement.

“Naku, ang ganda-ganda mo na. Pasensya ka na kung ngayon lang ako nakadalaw ulit. Sabi kasi ni Evo nagbalik ka raw sa Japan kaya hindi na kita nakita pa rito,” she exclaimed in extreme excitement as she recites words I do not understand, “Kumusta ka naman, Yumi?”

The lines on my forehead deepen as she continued to talk to me with the name I’m not using so I made a little step backwards and looked at her meaningfully, “I’m not Yumi…and I don’t know you.”

I saw she arched her brow a little and I was irritated by what she did. I’m in a rush and here she is blabbing about something I have no idea about. And what’s with her calling me Yumi? Do I look like that girl?

“Ito naman, anim na taon lang tayong hindi nagkita naging makakalimutin ka na. Ako ito, si tita Beth mo. Nakalimutan mo na ba? O sige, ipapaalala ko sa’yo. Ako ang sumundo sa’yo sa airport noong unang salta ka pa lang dito sa Pilipinas. Ako din ang naghatid sa’yo rito sa mansyon at—“

I held my right hand on her face to cut her in midsentence, “Okay, let’s get this over with. I may look like someone you know, whose name is Yumi but I’m not her. Definitely. And please don’t talk to me in your language ‘cause I can’t understand Filipino since I only talk in Nihongo and English. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m in a flight so I need to go.”

I turned my heel to leave her but the moment I stepped on the first staircase, a picture in my mind flashed like a sudden flash of a camera. It was a picture of a woman I talked to a second ago.

I turned my back but I can’t find her. She’s gone. I ran outside and found her back going to the gate of the mansion.

“Hey! Beth!” I called her. That was the name she said.

She stopped her feet and turned to me.

“Ano ‘yon?” she asked as I reached her.

“Can I talk to you? And no Filipino, please. I’m Maiko Fujiwara, by the way,” I said politely as I extended my hand to her.

Confused, she accepted my hand and shook it.

We head back to the mansion and told the house help to prepare something for Beth. I can’t find a word to say since I don’t have any idea of what to say and how should I put it. It’s confusing that it felt like everybody seemed to know my identity. I sat astride and faced her.

“I don’t know where to start, but please… tell me what you know. Who is Yumi?” I asked her directly.

She was trembling for I don’t know why. I can read in her eyes that she’s also confused of what I am talking about.

“You… you are Yumi,” she said while her hands are shaking rested on her lap, “You are Mayumi Matsumoto and… and I don’t know why you don’t know yourself. I was the one who escorted you here six and a half years ago. Don El Greco ordered me to fetch you at the airport and took you here under the care of the three brothers.”
