"Are you sure that this is a good idea," asked Deadpaw as he hopped to Lingeringpaw's side.

"Of course," she assured before lowering into a crouch and wiggling her haunches. "We should practice. We need to make sure that our battle moves are sharp as claws to defeat the Claw Wolves."

Deadpaw shook his head. "I'm not that great of a fighter," he argued.

"Don't worry. I'll teach you." She bounded to his side and nudged his haunch. "Now lower a bit deeper and get ready to strike," she instructed.

Deadpaw nodded and lowered into a crouch. He scraped his claws against the ground.

Lingeringpaw set up a few paces away and let out a growl. Deadpaw darted forward and shot out a paw. He scratched Lingeringpaw's flank. Lingeringpaw let out a wail and crumpled to the ground with blood oozing from her flank.

"I'm so sorry," gasped Deadpaw as he looked at his bloody claws. He began to shake in terror and shock grasped his head. He just wanted to hide.

Lingeringpaw turned her head and ran her tongue along her scratch. "It's okay," she gasped as she rushed to her paws and shook her head to clear it. "Just sheath your claws next time, alright?"

"I can't sheath my claws," Deadpaw argued. "Wolf claws don't work like claws. I can't just tuck them into my skin."

Lingeringpaw padded to his side and pressed against him. "Just concentrate and tuck them in. They'll go in if you force them," she murmured gently.

Deadpaw looked down at his claws and tried to tuck them in. Pain surged through him and he couldn't. "I can't! I just can't!" He let out a cry and a moan sounded in the back of his throat.

"Yes you can," Lingeringpaw corrected as she pressed more firmly against him. "Just don't think about it. Try again."

Deadpaw tried but the pain was too much. Lingeringpaw leaned forward and licked his cheek. Deadpaw's claws tucked in easily and Lingeringpaw bounded a few paces away. She lowered into her crouch and soared forward. She leaped on his back and spread her wings.

Deadpaw tried to buck her off but she flew into the sky. "Hey," called Deadpaw. "No powers."

Lingeringpaw rolled her eyes and suddenly her pure white pelt shinned. Deadpaw stumbled back and he couldn't see anything. He let out a yelp and began to paw at his eyes. "Alright, alright you can fly just don't do that again."

Deadpaw's eyes were beginning to see shapes but with not detail. She surged forward and leaped onto his shoulders. She brought him to the ground and snapped her jaws toward his ear, to try and startle him.

"My win," she rumbled.

Deadpaw let out a growl and thrust her upward. He leaped for her again but she was still ready. She rolled and kicked her leg against his chest. He fell to the ground once more and her tail wagged. "My win again."

Deadpaw relaxed his body and sighed. "I'll never be as good of a fighter as you."

"That's okay," she reassured as she leaped off of him and nudged him to his paws. "You'll get better one day, I promise."

Deadpaw turned his head around and suddenly touched noses with Lingeringpaw. Their eyes widened in surprise and Lingeringpaw took a step back. "I'm sorry," Deadpaw murmured as his body felt sticky in embarrassment.

"It's okay," Lingeringpaw mumbled. "I kind of liked it."
