Silvermoon pawed at the ground. She pricked her ears as she heard pups bounding toward her. She turned her head and saw Miragepup and Poulticepup bounded toward her.

She lowered her head and licked each pup atop the head. "Hey little ones. How are you two liking you new home?"

"Great," exclaimed Miragepaup as he swiveled his head toward his brother, Poulticepup. "It sure beats the view from inside the den. Maba wouldn't let us leave until now."

"That's because it can be dangerous out here," Silvermoon explained as she looked at her paws. I knew that she was hiding something but I wasn't sure how.

"We want to fight," howled Miragepup as he puffed out his fur and Silvermoon blinked her eyes as she saw a large wolf standing on it's hind legs. She knew it was Miragepup. He had the ability to create such allusions that anyone could believe them. They looked like you could just reach out and touch it.

"That won't help you," chided Poulticepup as he rolled his eyes and cuffed Migarepaw's ear. Miragepup staggered a bit before shaking his head and growled at his brother.

"You don't know that. Perhaps they will be weak minded and think that it's real,"he suggested as he reared on his hind legs and puffed out his chest in pride. "Not everyone is as intelligent as you."

Poulticeppup shuffled his paws in embarrassment. He didn't like attention being drawn to him.

"So what's your mutant power, Poulticepup,"asked Silvermoon as she blinked her eyes gently at her pup.

Poulticepup looked at Silvermoon with round eyes. He opened his mouth to answer but he just couldn't. Fear clawed at my body, that was something that I would never ask a pup about.

"He will one day," cut in Miragepup as he pressed against his brother.

Poulticepup nodded and sighed. I knew how desperately he wanted to be like the rest of us. Normally it's the other way around but not for Poulticepup. He didn't want to be in his brother's shadow his whole life.

"I'm sure he will," I but in as I bounded toward him and touched my nose to his ear. "Why don't you two ask Thruster for some moss and play a game of don't let the moss touch the ground."

"Okay," sighed Poulticepup as he dragged his paws. Miragepup pushed his brother forward and laughed as they raced each other toward Thruster's den.

Once they were gone I turned on Silvermoon. "Silvermoon! Why did you ask him that?"

Silvermoon turned calm blue eyes on me which only made me bristle even more. "I think he's the one."

"One? One what?" I thought that Silvermoon was speaking about one that would never have mutant powers but I was shocked at what she said next.

"The rare one that Twistedfate spoke about," she replied as her eyes seemed to bore into my soul. "The one who has the same power that I do, to read emotions but he was born with it. I think he is a mind reader, emotion reader, and memory reader."

"Do you know how rare that is in wolves," I asked her in a hushed whisper.

She nodded. "One in a billion but he is special. That's why I was asking those questions. I can read memories and I wanted to see how he would react."

"We need to figure out if he has it," I murmured before turning my attention to Xavier.

He turned to me and shook his head. "Why not," Silvermoon complained as she shoved her paws against the ground. "All you have to do is activate his mind and see if he can do the same thing that you can do."

"I would prefer not to do that," the professor told me as he rested his hands on his knees. It didn't take a genus to realize to figure out how uncomfortable Xavier was.

Silvermoon acted as though she wanted to argue but I lashed my tail to stop her from arguing with the professor. "That's alright. We'll find a way to figure this out, on our own."
