The High Life. The final stretch

Chapter 19

Christmas day 2035

"Morning guys." I said as I walked into the living room, the kids were sat around the tree.

"Morning mum." 4 of them said

"Morning Rhi." Ben and Jacob said

"oh I can hear Oscar." I said turning round and slowly and as quietly as I could opening the door to Jodie and James's room going over to the cot where both Oscar and Luna were sleeping and picking up a fussing Oscar. Jodie had put some milk in the fridge so that anyone could feed Oscar or Luna so I took Oscar out of the room and go some milk from the fridge to give to him.

"Can I give him the milk?" Lilly asked

"If you want." I said handing Oscar and the milk to Lilly

When everyone was up and had coffee we let the kids open their presents. Just like last year Blake played more with the wrapping paper than the presents, so did Oscar and Luna. The 3 of them sat on the floor and when I took the paper away from them the got upset.

"Okay here have it back." I said taking the paper back out of the bag and giving it back to them

Jodie was sat on the sofa laughing with James.

"What's that?" She said looking at the tree and seeing an envelope

I smiled but didn't say anything.

"Connor it's for you." Jodie said standing up and picking the envelope up off the tree.

"Is it?" Con said sound surprised.

"Yeah." Jodie said showing him. I was sat on the floor with the twins and Blake playing with the paper.

"Rhi?" Con said looking at me

"Open it, find out what it is." I said

Connor turned the envelope over and opened it.

Inside was a note that read 'Merry Christmas daddy.' Along with a scan picture.

He looked at the scan picture for a couple of seconds.

"What is it Con?" James said

"It's a scan picture." Con said

"What?" everyone shouted running over to Connor to look at the picture

"Already knew that." Ash said

Everyone looked at him

"What?" Con said

"Ash came round seconds after I took the test. So he found out the same time I did." I said

"Merry Christmas." I said standing up and looking at him

"Number 6?" He said looking at me

"Number 6." I said smiling

He walked over to me and put his arms around me....

"When did you find out?" Con whispered in my ear.

"Just before we came out here." I said

"I'm so happy right now." Con said still with his arms around me

"I knew you would be." I smiled

I could feel my shoulder slowly getting wet. Connor must be crying.

"Last one?" I said

"Last one." He said

I smiled

When he finally let go of me he looked at me put his hands on either side of my face and kissed me. His lips were wet and he smiled into the kiss.
