The High Life. The final stretch

Chapter 80

As 2039 turned into 2040 we enjoyed some time with mum, the kids loved it they really enjoyed having her around. She took them for days out so that me and Con could enjoy some time together. It was really lovely, New Year's Eve was a blast everyone came over and we had a massive party and it was well after 1 in the morning because I got into bed. Lilly had also made the massive decisions to move in with Ben, something they'd been talking about for a few months and having spent the last 2 weeks with each other they'd decided that Lilly would just stay and they would make Ben's spare room into Lilly's.

Mums last night came shortly after new year and I was rather sad that she was going.

"Let's go out for dinner tonight." I said to Connor we gone out for a walk with the dogs.

"Where do you want to go?" Con said

"The pub that's round the corner." I said

"Yeah that will be nice. See if Lilly and Ben want to come." Connor said

"Yeah okay." I said smiling

We enjoyed our walk then headed home.

"We're going out for tea tonight." I said

"Yay." The kids said

"Go get changed. I'll give the pub a ring and book a table." I said

"What time's the table booked for?" Connor asked me when I got off the phone

"6." I said

"Cool. I'll give Lilly a text now." Con said getting his phone out from his pocket and heading back to kitchen. I followed him.

Evie was sat at the table making a mess with some paint, mum was sat with her also covered in paint. I looked at the pair of them and laughed.

The evening meal was lovely and so chilled out. We got home at half 10 and the kids headed straight for bed.

The following morning, Monday and back to school for the kids and mum was heading home. She was going to take the kids to school then leave and just as the kids were leaving with mum I got a phone call from Alice.

"See you later guys." I said as they were leaving "Alice how are you?" I said

"Awful." She said

"What's up?" I asked

"I need you help?" She said Connor was stood looking at me confused.

"Please can you take a set of twin girls?" She said. Note of pleading in her voice.

"How long for?" I asked

"Big ask but till their 18 unless you adopt them. I have nowhere else for them." She said

"What about Claire?" I asked

"She won't take them" Alice said

"What's wrong with them?" I asked

She told me what the problem was and my mouth dropped.

"Please Rhianne I wouldn't ask unless it was necessary." She said

I looked at Connor and he gave me his, 'it's up to you, your at home most of the day' look.

"When you want me to pick them up?" I asked

"I'll bring them to you. It'll be safer." Alice said

"Okay. I'll make sure everything's ready." I said

"Rhianne you're a star. See you later on today." Alice said

"Oh how old are they?" I asked

"8 weeks." Alice said
