The High Life. The final stretch

Chapter 72

Over the next couple of weeks as June turned into July then into August Brad and Sid got into a routine with Izzy and Kyle. The pair of them were doing really well until Kyle ended up back in hospital the Monday a before the concert in Birmingham the following Tuesday

We ended up having Izzy for a couple of days while Brad and Sid spent time at the hospital with Kyle.

"How is he?" I asked Brad when he came to get Izzy on the Wednesday

"Lung infection." Brad said picking up Izzy in her car seat.

"Aww poor little guy." I said

"Yeah. They're hoping he'll be out by the weekend but not sure yet. If he's not, then Sid will stay down in London and me and Izzy will come up to Birmingham." Brad said

"you've talked about it?" I said

"Yeah last night. Just in case." He said

"Fair enough." I said

"Plus I don't think Calum is going so he can stay down here and support Sid." Brad said

"That's okay then. Because I know Jodie is going with the twins." I said

"Yeah Ash and Luke are as well." He said

"Cool." I said

"Yeah." Brad said

"Have a good night." I said

"Thanks for having her. I'm staying at home tomorrow because I have work to do so Izzy can stay with me." Brad said

"Okay." I said

"Thanks." Brad said and he left with little Izzy.

Over the next couple of days not much happened. Kyle was slowly getting better but was not out of the wood yet, but there was a bit of hope that he'd be out by the weekend. Jessie was getting himself ready to head up to high school in September. Lilly had just done her first set of exams and was dreading the results, she'd done loads of revision for them but wasn't convinced she'd done well.

"Lilly you need to stop worrying." Ben said the pair of them were sat in the living room with Evie, Blake and Grace. Connor had taken Casper and Jessie to football practice.

"But these exams will determine what I can do next year." Lilly said

"Ben's right Lilly. You need to stop worrying." I said walking to the dining room table and putting lunch out

"Easy for you to say.... you don't have to do them." Lilly said

"Lilly." I said

"Sorry." She said

"Come on come have some lunch. Then we'll go out for a walk." I said

"Okay." She said the 5 of them came and sat and the table and we had some lunch.

Connor and the boys got back just after lunch be we were about to head out for a walk.

"How was practice?"

"Jessie what happened?" I looked at him and he had a black eye

"Casper kicked the ball at my face." He said

"I didn't mean to." Casper said

"Whatever. You still did it." Jessie said

"It was an accident." Casper said

"wasn't" Jessie said

"Come here Jessie." I said lifting him up onto the work top of the kitchen.

"Ouch." He said as I put a cold towel over his eye

"Right Casper what do you say?" I said looking at him

"Sorry Jessie." He said

"Good. Jessie?" I said looked at Jessie

"it's okay." Jessie said

"Right Casper please get some frozen peas from the freezer or Jessie is going to have a panda eye." I said

"I don't want to look like a panda." Jessie said

"Sit still then." I said

"It's cold." He said

"It's meant to be." I said getting my first aid kit from the cupboard.

"It's going to be sore for a while but it should be okay." I said getting an eye patch out for Jessie. Jessie being from the kind of background he was brought up in anything can be harmful. His mum took drugs while pregnant and it had a knock on affect on Jessie.

"Will I have to go to the hospital?" Jessie asked

"See how it is a bit later on and if it's worse then I'll take you down just in case. But put the patch on just to be on the safe side." I said

"okay." He said taking it off me

"You look like a pirate." Grace said coming into the kitchen

"Grace!" Con said

"Sorry." She said

"Right go on go and have some lunch then we'll go out for a walk." I said

"Do I have to go out like this?" Jessie said

"It's not that bad Jessie." I said

"Yeah it is." He said looking in the mirror above the fire place in the dining room

"Stop worrying." I said

"I think it looks cool Jessie." Lilly said smiling

"Thanks." Jessie said

"Yeah makes you look very daredevil ish." Ben said smiling

"Thanks." Jessie said

Jessie and Casper had something to eat then we all went for a walk.

Friday afternoon Brad came round to say that Kyle's lung infection had cleared up and that he would be able to go home.

"That's amazing Brad." I said Izzy had come to us again for the day Connor had taken the others out while Izzy had a sleep.

"Thanks. Yeah it means that we can all come to Birmingham." Brad said

"Yeah that's great. It would have been sad if Sid couldn't come." I said

"Yeah." Brad said

"When's he come out?" I asked

"Tonight or tomorrow morning." Brad said

"That's alright then." I smiled
"Yeah." Brad said

"Want Izzy to stay here?" I said

"Yeah please."

"That's fine. She's a right little character." I said smiling

"Yeah she is. Sid says she's going to be like me when she's older." Brad said

"I think he might be right." I said looking down at Izzy she was asleep in my arms

"How long she been asleep?" Brad said looking at Izzy

"About half an hour." I said

"Not long then." Brad said

"No." I said

Brad stuck around for a bit longer then left and headed back to the hospital.

Connor and the kids got back just before Izzy woke up. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the garden. I even opened the pool up for them to have a swim. Connor sat on the side with Izzy and I got in with Evie and the kids.
