It was strange having a tiny baby in the house again. I wasn't used to it. Blake was still only little but had just turned 3. So not really a baby any more all the kids had adjusted well to having Evanna round all except Grace. This had something to do mainly because Grace wasn't the youngest girl anymore and Casper and Jessie weren't as protective now that Evie was here. Grace was just going to have to get used to Evie. Ben and Lilly were loving it. They wanted to take Evie out for walks and look after her. As it got closer to Christmas and Evie could sit up and go longer between feeds I had been letting them take her out sometimes they took the twins and sometimes they took Blake and Grace to the park. Sometimes Jessie and Casper would go but Lilly and Ben taking the younger ones out meant that I could spend some time with the boys and do things that they want to do. At the moment for Casper it was ice hockey. He'd got into the local team and was rather good. I'd been going to the training sessions and matches to watch him play. For Jessie not that I was any good so couldn't really help him but Connor, James, Brad, Luke and Ash had all been helping, for him it was football and sometimes together we would go to the park and I would try and play, by play I mean stand in a make shift goal while Jessie tried to score (which he always did, I was really that bad). He was getting ready for the try outs at school which he was really excited about and he'd been going out with the guys to practice because I was no use what so ever but on some occasion I had taken the others down to watch so that Jessie got used to people watching. Jessie was one of those kids that liked to blend in and didn't like to be noticed. So him going up for the football team was not like him at all but after being given gentle nudges mainly from Casper to do something 'out there' he had signed up for it. Casper was being the big brother and being really supportive and because the playing field were 5 minutes from our house had sometime taken Jessie down to have a kick about with him just to boost his confidence and his skills. Sadly Casper had inherited my dislike for sports other then any Ice related sport he wasn't that good at football but could play better than I could and I think he was doing it more for Jessie than anything else.
Middle of December. Day of try outs. Jessie was up for to early. I didn't mind I was up with Evie anyway so was sat down stairs when he came down. He came into the living room in the football kit, he'd got as an early Christmas present so that he had something to wear for the try outs this had annoyed Grace she had a good moan about it.
"It's not fair. Why does he get a present and I don't?" She'd said
"Because Grace, he's got it for the try outs."
"Still not fair. You cant give one a present and not the others."
I had listened to her moaning for about 20 minute before saying that if she didn't give it a rest she wouldn't be getting anything for Christmas, She was quiet after that.
"morning Jess." I said
"Morning mum." He said sitting on the floor next to Evie so that he could play with her while she was on her play mat, she was chatting away to herself, but smiled when Jessie sat down.
"how you feeling?" I asked
"Not to bad. I figured that if Casper can get onto the hockey team then I can get on the football team."
I laughed "Fair enough"
"Can I get Evie dressed mum?" He asked
"If you want. I'll go and get her some clothes." I said standing up and going into the kitchen where on the floor was a basket of Evie's clean clothes that I hadn't taken up stairs to her room yet.
I walked back into the living and Jessie was blowing raspberries on Evie's feet making her laugh.
I smiled "Having fun there?" I asked sitting back down
"Yes thanks. Are you coming to try outs today?" Jessie asked
"If you want me to. I'll come" I said
"Will you?" He said sound surprised that I had said I will go
"Course I will wouldn't miss it for the world sweet." I smiled
"Bring Evie with you?" He said
"Would you like her to come?" I asked
"Yes please. Want her to see her big brother in action." Jessie said
"I'm sure she'll be pound of you no matter what." I said smiling
"thanks mum." Jessie said
"Want the others to come?" I said
"Just you, Evie, Casper and I asked Ash and Luke if they would come as well. They said they would meet us there." Jessie said
"Okay." I said smiling
"Thanks mum." He said
"Your very welcome." I smiled
When everyone else was up as it was Saturday and Saturday are our lazy days, me, Jessie, Casper and Evanna headed for school. The try outs were being held on the school playing fields.
"You okay?" I asked Jessie he'd gone really quiet
"Yeah. I'm fine." He said
"Sure?" Casper said
"No." Jessie said
"You'll be fine bro." Casper said
"I hope so." Jessie said
"What time are Luke and Ash getting here?" Jessie asked
"I text them earlier and they said they would be here in about 15 minutes." I said
"Okay good." Jessie said
"Don't worry Jessie they'll be here." I smiled
"Yeah." Jessie said looking around
"Stay calm Jessie. Don't worry to much." Casper said putting his arm around Jessie
"Thanks." Jessie said
Ash and Luke arrived just as it was Jessie's turn.
"Glad you here. Jessie was worried you weren't going to make it." I said getting a bottle of milk out of Evie's bag for her as she was getting hungry.
"We're here now." Ash said
"Yeah." I said
"Got anything for me in there mum?" Casper said
"You can have a banana?" I said
"Yes please." he said I handed him the banana
We then sat and watched Jessie do his try out.
"Well done Jessie." I said as he walked back over to us 15 minutes later.
"That was awful." He said resting his head on my shoulder
"It wasn't that bad Jessie." Casper said
"honestly?" Jessie said looking at him
"Yeah it was good you did really well sweet." I said smiling and patting him on the back
"Yeah well done Jessie." Ash said
"Was it really okay?" Jessie said
"It was fine." Luke said
"Okay." Jessie said not sounding convinced.
"When will you find out weather you've made the team or not?" I asked as we walked back to the car
"After Christmas." Jessie said
"Really you have to wait that long?" I said
"Yeah." Jessie said
"Ouch." Casper said
"It's okay Jessie. We can still go down to the park to play if you want?" Luke said
"Yeah." Jessie said smiling at Luke
"Come on lets get home for lunch." I said
"Yeah." Jessie said
