The drive back to Vegas from Goldfield took me 3 hours. I was tired and determined to get home in one piece. But the temptation to take off and head to California was even stronger, I wanted to be sat on a beach, soaking up the sun and listening to the waves. But I wasn't, I was going back to a heavy populated black hole.
Reaching across the seat I picked up my phone to find it was dead, groaning I tossed it back on the seat and relied on myself to keep awake.
Familiar buildings soon began appearing and it wasn't long until I was pulling up at the store where I hired some of my equipment. I checked it all back in and thanked them before heading to my apartment. I parked up and leant my head on the wheel only for it to beep at me and make me jump.
"Stupid car." I muttered and collected what was left in my car and take it in.
Being a clean freak I made sure I packed everything away, I didn't use any of my equipment which left Zak with all the footage, I guess he needed it more than me seeing as it was his show but it felt like all my efforts were fruitless now as I had nothing to show. Remembering a dead cell phone I pulled it from my pocket and stuck it on charge before hitting the shower.
The satisfaction of the water burning my skin and releasing the stress and tension from my back was heaven. I took out my hair from a throw up bun I had done in the car and washed it properly, I was massaging the conditioner in when I caught the lump on my head from the rock that had hit me. Further inspection I also found out what healing tissue was on it, I had now took off. I washed every single inch thoroughly and shaved before washing myself free from soap suds.
"Done." I sighed turning off the shower and wrapping myself in a fluffy towel. Yawning had took hold of me as I went into the bedroom.
"Did you miss me? Cause I missed you." I spoke pulling out clothes to wear.
"You did. That's so sweet!" I cooed and face planted the bed with my arms out trying to hug it.
"I'm home now." Another yawn took hold and I rolled onto my back looking at the ceiling.
I found it so hard to change after a shower, I always just laid on my bed in a towel thinking how nice it is to have a slight breeze across your skin from the window... Like right now.
"5 minutes. Just 5 minutes." I said to myself and closed my eyes for my nap.
.....
My ringtone tore my silence in half, I picked it up and answered it without looking at the Caller ID. It would be my mom or my friend Elle, who always liked to ring to make sure I hadn't been taken hostage by any Ghosties.
"Hello." I answered in a raspy voice.
"Good morning Kaylee."
My eyes opened wide thinking the voice was familiar and there was no way he was in my apartment.
"Zak?"
"Yep."
"As in Zak Bagans?" I asked.
"Your morning voice is hot.. Yes what's up Sheila?"
"Why are you ringing me? How did you even get my number?" I asked rubbing my eyes.
He laughed "We got the wrong phones... I've been trying to ring you since last night."
I scoffed "I was with you last night?"
"Kaylee.. You were asleep all last night."
I frowned and pulled the phone away "What the hell?" His laugh came through the phone making me hold it back to my ear.
"So I have your phone?" I asked.
"Indeed."
"I'm sorry. I- When are you back in Vegas? We could meet up and I'll give it back to you. I'm so sorry I didn't even think about turning it on."
"It's alright. So was that an offer to go on a date?" He asked, the tone of his voice I could tell he was almost smiling down the phone.
"No. Because the man asks the woman." I responded.
"Touché. Would you like to come over to mine when I get back? I don't go out much into Vegas..."
"Are you a hermit crab?" I teased.
"No... Maybe." He answered making me giggle.
"Okay but only because you need your phone. When and where?"
"I'll text you. Well me."
"Oh." I answered pushing my mouth to the side.
"What's up?"
"I just thought.. Maybe you'd want me to turn it off. Otherwise people will think you are ignoring them." I replied.
"No, no it's cool. Turn it on silent though otherwise you will get flooded with notification and emails. Not to mention messages."
"Popular man then."
"I have a few Ex's that wont seem to let go right now."
"Ah heartbreaker are we?" I asked.
"Not intentionally but when they lie and sell stories about me to get money.. They gotta go. I don't trust many people now."
I frowned hearing that and wondering what life he led when he was like that "That's kind of sad." I answered.
"Maybe it is but it happens. Look sweetie I gotta get back to work. Keep it on and I'll text you when I'm back."
"Yup."
"Hey Kaylee?"
"Yes?"
"What are you wearing right now?" He laughed.
"Goodbye you rude boy." I giggled.
"Oh come on, give me something! I'm stuck with guys here and it's nice to speak to a woman with a hot voice."
"I'm wearing a burka." I replied making him laugh.
"You'd probably pull it off to be fair."
I decided to give him a little flirt before I go. "I'm still in a towel. From my shower last night."
"So you're nake-"
"Goodbye!" I sang down the phone as he laughed.
"Bye Sweet cheeks."
We hung up as I looked at his phone seeing a photo of a black and white dog. Cutie.
Then reality sank in that I had Zak's phone... It wouldn't hurt to have a little peak in his photos to see his life. Would it?
His house, car, dog, screenshots were the majority until I hit a picture of breasts and I'm not talking the chicken variety.
"Woah there." I shook my head and turned on his camera, turning it to me I scrunched up my face and took a photo.. He'd find that eventually. Knowing I had to get up I put his phone down and began changing when it pinged, and pinged, and pinged and pinged.
"Jesus. See what he means by silent now." I spoke to myself and turned it on to stop it from going off so much.
If he text.. Well he'd have to wait for a reply.
