Gracie sat shot gun beside me as I drove through Vegas with the parcel in the boot. The house had been quiet until that dang thing arrived. I hoped that me putting it in his museum, it would end up there than at the house.
I figured I should be telling Zak so that he could have someone there but I knew he would talk me out of it and ask that I ignored the problem at home. I couldn't not without him being there, I felt vulnerable with him away and to think I had to share my home with something else.. Nu-uh.
Pulling into the museum car park I stopped the engine and looked at Gracie who wagged her tail. "Recognise this place already huh?" I asked her earning myself a lick on the cheek.
"Come on then. Let's drop this dang parcel off of make our way home."
I got out and held the door as she jumped out after me, I walked to the trunk and got the parcel out holding it at a distance as I placed it on the ground and locked up the car. I felt like moving it with my foot all the way to the door but not knowing if it was fragile or not I had to pick it up. I ran to the door with it instead and put it down before fumbling with a set of keys.
Finding the right one I unlocked it and pushed the parcel in enough so that it wasn't in the way.
"Now stay." I spoke to it and went to close the door when I heard a woman's cry. I looked at Gracie who had also heard it and tilted her head to the side.
"Yeah you heard that too? Shall I call the cops?" I asked her.
As if she could speak..
Before I could answer myself the cry happened again and Gracie shot in the museum from the gap in the door leading me to gasp.
"Gracie!" I whispered harshly trying to get her back. With no white collie making a reappearance I had to go in..
Grumbling as I went, I made my way around the place in darkness. Hearing the cry again I turned myself the opposite way and wondered if someone had broken in, the cry sounded too loud to be a ghost. The corridors were long and dark which only built my anxiety as I shuffled down them slowly taking each step cautiously.
The cuckoo clock went off causing me to scream and hit into the wall sinking down in the corner protecting myself. I was squeezing the rosary beads for all I had praying that I made it out here well and that I found Gracie safe and well.
She was so in trouble..
Who was I kidding? I'd probably cry in relief seeing her again!
Paranormal investigator? I was turning into a joke.. That idea worked me up enough to get up and storm down the corridors until I found Gracie at the top of the basement stairs crying and whining, she scratched at the gate before looking at me as I approached.
"What is it girl?" I whispered crouching beside her.
The cry came again from the basement. That was enough for me to have me ringing Zak.
'Hello swe-'
"Iknowyou'regonnabereallymadbuti'matthemuseumandGraciecansensesomethingishere."
'Woah woah take a breath.. '
I sucked in a harsh one and released it before repeating myself again, only slower.
"I know you're gonna be really mad but I'm at the museum and Gracie can sense something is here." I waited and sure enough an explosion came from over the phone as Zak let rip. I held the phone away as he told me to get my ass out of there right now and not to go in any of the rooms. Just to get Gracie and get the hell out.
