Zak POV
I stood at the bedroom door looking across at Kaylee as she slept in my bed with Gracie tucked under her arm. As far as I could tell, halfway through the night Kaylee had stirred and must have began dreaming. That must have been Gracie's cue to wiggle her way between us, leading Kaylee to cuddle into her, like now. Looking at Gracie now on her side asleep I gave a smile to my dog. From shelter to home, she was the best thing that has happened to me by far and that day we were introduced I knew it was inevitable.. She was coming home with me. I couldn't be more proud to call her my dog seeing her sensitive nature.
Maybe it was some force, or a signal from someone above telling me I needed Gracie in my life. Her pure soul and companionship certainly pulled me through dark times.
Hearing the front door open and close I stepped back slightly to see Aaron bustling in carrying grocery bags. He went to speak when I held my finger to my lips signalling him to be quiet and pointed in the bedroom, with a nod he continued towards me and looked in. I closed the door and walked to the kitchen with him in tow.
"How is she?" He asked settling bags down and unpacking them.
"Sleeping, just.. Sleeping. I guess she is going to be like that for a while right?"
He nodded "Poor thing is probably exhausted."
I watched him bring out chocolate and lifted a brow, we were both trying a health kick.. This was temptation.
"Kaylee." He spoke placing it in the fridge before shooting me a look. I nodded and rolled my eyes.
"Elle wants to know when she can see her?" He said as I made him a coffee.
I shrugged "I don't know bro, she is just gonna need sleep, not entertain anyone. It's nearly 7pm now, she has been asleep all day."
"What was she like last night?" Aaron asked.
"Same. I think she had a night terror that is when Gracie weaved in but apart from that, all she has done is sleep.
"Would it be worth waking her? She is going to need food and drink. The last thing you want is her being sick."
I nodded in agreement "I want her to wake though. I don't want to wake her up myself. Her body needs the rest. She will wake when she needs to and I'll be there to make her food."
We both sat out in the garden enjoying the last of the sun before the darkness creeped in "How did the cleansing go at her apartment?" I asked.
"Heavy.. Seriously heavy stuff but it should be okay now." He replied sipping his coffee before looking at me.
"You going to be ready to let her go when she is better?" He questioned making me ponder.
"Probably not." I replied, my body was already fighting my mind to go and check on her. Make sure she was okay, to check if her body was covered properly. I caved and stood up going over to the glass window wall and opening it to my bedroom, Gracie hopped out and ran into the garden as Kaylee stirred realising the difference of having someone there. She took hold of my pillow before pushing it aside and patting the bed, I had left my shirt on the bed and that was soon up under her nose.
She was too vulnerable to be on her own, I needed to know she was safe at all times and I couldn't do that when she lived in an apartment and I lived here. Looking at the house I wondered if I could convince her to move in or even closer to mine...
"Everything is going to be so foreign to her right now." Aaron whispered behind me. We both knew what he meant, we had both had negative experiences and had to have cleansings from it before we arrived home. I had even had an exorcism, not the most happiest of memories of my life when all I wanted to do was rip the guys head off but! It was extremely necessary.
Gracie bundled in and resumed her position under Kaylees arm "She's such a good dog bro." Aaron whispered making me nod.
We came away leaving her to sleep as myself and Aaron took a seat in the lounge watching TV. There wasn't much else on so we ended up watching Star Wars. I didn't care as it took my mind off checking on Kaylee every 5 minutes which is what I had been doing since I woke up.
I had my head in my phone going through twitter when Aaron spoke. "Dude.."
I looked up to find Kaylee spaced out swaying on her feet. "Kaylee?" I spoke sitting forward unsure if I should get up and touch her.
"Sleep walking?" Aaron suggested.
"Maybe.." I whispered.
She began walking towards me and climbed onto my lap before falling back to sleep. All whilst I held my hands out unsure whether I could hold her.
"Just like that." Aaron snapped his fingers as I gently put my arms around her to hold her.
"Just like that. " I sighed feeling sorry for her.
"Maybe it's you?" Aaron suggested making me frown.
"Me what?"
He looked at Kaylee and back to me "Maybe she is attached to you more than you realise. Your bed, your top, your dog and now you.. Maybe you are safe and calming to her."
"Bro, my life is the most complicated thing I've ever known.. How can I be calming and safe?"
He shrugged "I wouldn't rule it out.. She is looking for safety and right now she is gripping onto you like grim death." He pointed.
I looked at her hands to see them bunching my shirt up, maybe he had a point but right now getting her back to her normal self was my main concern.
