A few days later...

"Okay why the hell didn't you tell me?!" Elle asked as I explained to her my lockdown went a little different than expected.

"I don't know.. Really. Anyway that's not the point. The point is he has my phone." I answered over my coffee.

"What if he reads your messages?" She asked twisting her red hair up into a bun, her blue eyes waiting for my response.

I'd know Elle since I moved to Vegas, she was the first person I spoke to and she was the only person I got on with at work.. Which is why we were stood in the diner taking orders from hungry customers.

I was putting an order through on the system when she mentioned the fact I haven't replied to my messages but sent a emoji instead. I then had to explain..

"If he reads my messages... Well he reads them." I shrugged.

She looked concerned and stepped forward "What about Eric?" She whispered.

I shrugged "He's not my problem anymore. Anything he sends will go to Zak." I replied and smiled at that idea.

"Let's hope it's not a dick pic."

I laughed with her and pulled a face "Awks."

Eric was my adorable ex, the only man I wanted to put into a rocket and send into outta space and lose. The man physically exhausted me from his ways and I couldn't handle the idea of taking him back. Some actions were forgivable. Others? Well let's just say finding him in bed with another woman from his work was just salt in the wound for my reason to ditch his ass.

.........

Work passed fairly quickly, but nothing sang to my heart like paranormal investigating did. Nothing made me excited to go to work. This was just plain. Plain and boring.

I pulled out Zak's phone and smiled seeing my name on his screen.

"Ooooh I think someone might be crushing." Elle giggled closing her locker.

"Nonsense. No."

"Oh yes.. You want him in bed and down under." She teased making me scold her.

"It's nothing. Nothing like that."

"Sure it's not. You keep telling yourself that but your face says different. Relax it's not a crime & he's pretty buff if you ask me.

Yes. Yes he darn well was!

"So... What's he said?"

"Afternoon Sheila, who's Eric? And why does he send you a dick pics? Z x"

"He put a kiss?" She asked pulling phone towards her to see.

"I always put a kiss at the end of my texts. It's force of habit, I do it to Andy & he is our boss." I whispered.

"I know, seriously had my money on you & him until stumpy dick came on the scene.." She answered.

"Me & Andy? Jeeze girl he's at least 20 years older than me!"

"So? He totally has the hots for you. Follows you around like a little puppy." She pouted making kissing noises.

"He really doesn't." I answered.

I looked at Zak's phone and decided to text back as he now knew I had read his message.

- The ex. K x

I waited and saw the three dots bouncing which means he was responding. I smiled and slipped the phone into my pocket.

"Nothing going on huh? You're so Crimson right now. My question is... Does he have a friend?"

I lifted my brow "I figured you wanted my sloppy seconds with Andy." I teased making her cringe.

"Exactly. Practise before you preach." I laughed as we left the locker room.

"Bitch." She muttered and shook herself.

We give Andy & the two servers who had taken over from us a goodbye before leaving.

"So when do you get your phone back?" Elle asked me as we walked to our cars.

"When he's back I guess."

"Is he taking you out when he's back?"

I shook my head "No, I'm just gonna grab my phone and two step outta there." I replied.

"Sure you will. One look and a show stopping smile.. Your panties will be off and you'll be calling him daddy."

I looked at her as she paused "Oh wait. That's just me." She giggled.

I laughed and got to my car shaking my head at her madness. I started up my car before heading out think about what Elle had said.

I'd have to get my phone back eventually, and that meant seeing Zak again and leaving. I'd come accustomed to his stupid messages and dumb jokes. But that would all cease once our phones were exchanged.. Right?

Maybe he wouldn't want to be friends?

Maybe he just wanted to have a quick hook up and be done with it?

Would I even be okay with that?

I'd like to be his friend, not only because of his line of work but because he seemed like a good guy. He had experienced so much of the world I wanted to join, he was within my grasp to interrogate and learn from.

Like Batman & Robin.

I sighed realising I was asking a lot from a guy I barely knew. I mean... He's got it all, the show, the looks, the money & the equipment.

What do I have? A second hand car, an apartment the size of a shoe box and a dream of being on TV doing exactly what he does.

Punching. Above. My weight.

Zak's phone pinged again, he has finally responded but the same fizz of excitement I had got over the past few days had well... Fizzled out.

I was kidding myself to think he would want to stay in contact after the dick pic Eric had decided to present.

I didn't look at the message that evening. I simply put his phone on silent and went to work on a new location. Hoping that an investigation would pull my head out from my backside and put me back on track. Instead of swooning after a guy...
