Betrayed

A few weeks on..

I sat on the bed watching Zak pack up his case for his new lockdowns. I had tried to remain positive, tried being the word but I kept failing.

"You'll be okay." He sighed watching me hug my knees to my chest.

I had him a smile but it failed to put him at ease, Gracie had gone to his moms this afternoon as he was taking off early afternoon tomorrow. With his mom wanting to take Gracie and Ridley to lake mead, Zak dropped her off on her play date early.

"Why don't you come with me then?" He asked putting his boots in the case.

I shook my head "You don't need me around you 24/7." I mumbled.

"But what if I wanted you around me 24/7?" He asked.

"It would be impossible. We would argue eventually and I don't want to argue with you." I replied causing him to stop and kiss my forehead.

Tonight I was going back to work until 9pm.. It was 5pm now and I should have been leaving the house but I was afraid to, I hadn't gone to work since it all happened, mainly through embarrassment.

"I'm only a phone call away, you know that right?" He asked sitting beside me.

I nodded and looked at him causing him to sigh and pull me into his chest. "Don't look at me like that, I feel awful for leaving you with Elle now."

"Only a few days... Right?"

"Of course. Look why don't I speak with Andy and g-"

"No. No don't. I'll be okay..."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah I think." I smiled quickly and stood up. "I have to go, I'll see you at 9pm."

"I'll be there." He smiled.

I gave him a kiss causing us to fall back on the bed making me giggle as he growled playfully. Swatting my butt I got up and left him sprawled on the bed knowing that if I stayed a problem would.. 'Arise'. We hadn't been intimate since the incubus. Apart from a kiss and a cuddle we were on sexual lockdown, Zak found that hard and would have a cold shower most days. So I learned to wear more clothes to put him at ease.

Elle picked me up and from how excited she was in the seat next to me, I gathered she had missed me. After a full in depth conversation of gossip and who did what, we arrived at work.

"You sure you are ready?" She asked.

I shrugged "I have to try.."

We both got out and went towards the door when I had a flash back of leaving with Zak. I stepped aside almost design myself bustling out the door and getting into Elle's car. Which was where mine was originally parked.

"Kaylee?"

My head snapped to Elle who was looking at me carefully, I gave her a smile and followed her in. Placing our stuff in we took over from our servers and continued working. But I felt a throbbing in my mind. Every time I passed the staff door I felt inclined to run through it and disappear.

I touched my chest gently and felt the rosary beads on my chest giving me some reassurance that I was okay. Half an hour felt like 2 hours.
