An unforgettable relation,

An unforgettable promise,

Like an Andromeda,

The closest, yet so far,

We were both 5 years old when I first knew him. He lived right beside my house. Every evening, we would play together. ‘Galah panjang’, ‘ting-ting’ and ‘nyorok-nyorok’ are our daily schedule. He was my best friend, in fact my only friend. Everything was perfectly fine.

Suddenly, he had to go. His family was going to stay overseas.

I was in despair.

There will be no one to accompany me playing at the park. No more sweets and ice cream to be shared. No more “galah panjang’ and ‘nyorok-nyorok’. And most terrifyingly, there will be no more him.

On that day of his transfer, we were still playing our last hide and seek. Suddenly, I heard his mother calling for him. And without saying goodbye, he ran towards his mother who is waiting in the car. He sat in the car silently, as if he was hiding. But this time, I could never seek for him again. Before the car started moving, he waved his hand and shouted loudly, “I’ll be back!”

As I replied his wave, my heart silently whispered, “I know you’ll be back.”

Like a ray of sunlight,

You may be gone at night,

Still I know,

You’ll be here tomorrow.
