Vincent didn't like the change of expression on Lexis' face. It was as if he had realized terrible news. "That's why what? What hasn't she told me?"

"Fayth, recently stumbled upon an... unpleasant scene. You see, Jessie was put in F.A.I.T.H. for a completely different reason than what she thought. He was put in there because he's... gay."

Vincent's hands clenched into fists as he heard this for the first time. Why didn't she discuss this with him? She should have. He should have known about this.

"You- you said she's too calm. How can that be? Knowing her, she would be..." He couldn't even say it out loud. Vincent heard her love for that boy from miles away. How could more misfortune befall her like this?

How is it possible that she's that unlucky?

"I was going to ask you the same question, but then I realized it myself when you said that she hasn't mentioned it to you. She was afraid that you'd eventually find out how she was trying to heal. She's overdosing. To the point where she has become completely numb. I'm sure of it."

Vincent wiped his face in disbelief. Too much. Too much was happening and he wasn't there to help her. That's not all, it was only days ago that he was beaming about going to Hawaii with his girlfriend, leaving Fayth by herself for the winter break.

Hands still covering his face, Vincent eventually asked. "Tell me, does the Academy let students stay over for winter break?"

"Why are you asking?"

Vincent straightened up. "My girlfriend and I are leaving for vacation soon, and since it will be our our first anniversary, we wouldn't be able to bring Fayth along. The vacation will take up the days of the winter break too. Fayth said she'll be fine, that there are many students' parents who will still be working and won't be able to go home either. That she has friends who will be staying at the Academy with her."

Lexis was lost in thought. "Since there will be no adult supervision, the Academy dismisses all students until the break ends. All her friends were bragging about spending the holidays with their families. Clearly the opposite of what she's been telling you. Actually, she was doing the same thing. I'm only hearing about her staying at the Academy for the first time right now. It seems like she was just going to come back home and just be here without you knowing."

Vincent was torn to shreds. He couldn't even describe how foolish he felt. Of course she would lie. She would do that much for him. She would go through everything – all that pain – by herself if it meant making Vincent happy. Sometimes, he felt so much anger towards her for trying so hard, when she didn't have to at all. Right there and then he made the decision to cancel all his plans and focus on her for a while.

Vincent reached for his phone on the table, deciding to call her and confront her with this.

Lexis quickly leaned forward and placed his fingers on the screen, pressing the phone down on the table. "Listen to what I have to say."

Vincent, by now, was exhausted emotionally. "What is it that you want?"

Lexis could feel the bond between Fayth and Vincent just by his reaction. And he was more perplexed by Fayth's plans, her way of thinking. What she held in her heart was something no one would ever truly understand.

Fayth Armstrong, what an enigma you are.

And that's why he said what he did next, because he knew exactly what he was supposed to do now.

"I want to take full responsibility of Fayth for now. Allow me to take over your role for a little while."

Vincent stared at Lexis, studying his expression. His feelings weren't in anyway apparent for him to see. His face was empty, blank, hidden behind a locked door he doubted ever to be opened. Taking all of that into consideration, Vincent didn't doubt Lexis. Someone so devoid of emotion wouldn't have come here unless he had absolute genuine feelings towards Fayth.

"Let me ask you a question, that day – on your classmate's birthday party – how is it that you knew exactly what to say in order to calm Fayth down?"

A small smile appeared on Lexis' lips, he admired the man for having seeing through his plot. "I was in a somewhat similar situation. I also used to take the medication she's taking. I knew what kind of feelings control her when she's reminded by a traumatic memory. Using reverse psychology would be the only way to slowly take her out of it. She'll start to face it, going through the worst of it, then she'll begin to refuse to believe it herself, instead of trying to convince others."

Vincent squinted his eyes in thought. He wondered if Fayth's misfortune was suddenly changing to be in her favor by meeting this indifferent person in front of him.

"What will you do with what I tell you about Fayth?"

"I will use that to acknowledge her. Help her. I'm capable since I've been through it before."

"Are you really ready to do that? No matter how disturbing it is what I tell you?"

Lexis studied the man in front of him, and realized that what he had coming for him was much bigger than anything he had anticipated.

"Absolutely."
