Fayth had stopped going to school.

Vivian would call her and text her and there would be no answer. At one point, the calls took her straight to voicemail, indicating Fayth had blocked her. She'd go to her house everyday and wait outside to see her, everyday, and not once did Fayth appear before her.

And an obsession started.

In a way, Fayth wanted to save Vivian from herself. Out of everyone, Vivian Crane seemed maverick. A person capable of truly loving Fayth Armstrong. Anyone that even gives a little of that tendency is a person worth avoiding–worth saving. And so she walked away.

Fayth hung out with Charles for a few days. When she came back home she found Vivian waiting for her at her doorstep.

"Fayth!" She exclaimed, so happy it intoxicated the air.

Fayth stopped walking and stared at Vivian.

"I'm so glad you're okay." Vivian said, walking towards her.

Fayth stepped back.

Vivian noticed and stopped walking. "Did I do something wrong? Where did you go?"

Fayth couldn't breathe. The air reeked of desperation and compromise. Or whatever variables make up human sweetness. "You're just not the kind of person I want to hang out with."

"But we were so good. We were doing fine. Is it about Joe–"

"I don't care about Joe. I used him to piss you off." Fayth interrupted.

Vivian smiled. "I don't know why, but I don't really mind you doing that."

Fayth sighed, annoyed. "Leave."

"No." Vivian answered simply.

"I said leave."

"No."

"I want you to leave." Fayth demanded.

"I will never go away. And if you leave, I will wait for you. I don't know why I'm doing this, but you are literally the safest person I've ever been around."

Fayth stared at her like she was joking. "Me?"

Vivian shrugged. "We can be the best of friends you know."

"Why on Earth would I ever want you as my friend?"

Vivian stared into Fayth's eyes, her expression serious for the first time. Her eyes full of empathy. "Because I know I can help you."

Fayth stared back at her in mock. "Me? Help me?"

"Yes."

"What makes you think I need Help?" Why is this irritating me? She's no one.

Vivian shrugged. "I don't know how to explain it. I just know you're hurting. I want to help you."

"Do you think I'm pathetic or something?"

That's the worst thing you can do to Fayth Armstrong. Make her feel like she was pathetic. Like she needed saving.

"I didn't mean that."

"I'm fine without you. I have enough friends."

"I promise you will like having me as your friend. I'm very likable. I can help you."

Fayth was starting to get pissed off. The girl in front of her was belittling her. As if Fayth was pathetic. As if she was a stray dog in need of shelter.

And suddenly, she didn't want to save this person.

She wanted to destroy her.

Fayth stared at Vivian, her expression slowly turning. It changed from disgust to void of any emotion in a matter of seconds. Suddenly her eyes were empty. Her eyebrows were relaxed. Her expression unfazed.

You will learn to fear the dark.

"Okay." Fayth said, shrugging.

Little did Fayth know that instead of fearing the dark, Vivian would make it her home. One right next to Fayth's.
