Peeta POV-
"Everything okay?" Finnick asks me knowingly as I walk into the hall way.
I shake my head.
"Want me to go talk to her?" He asks.
"She doesn't remember any of us so there's no point. And she pretty much just made it clear that she didn't want to have anything to do with me at least."
"What? Why?" Annie says.
"I was telling her about our life but I left out all the bad stuff. I didn't think the majority of it was important but she thinks I was trying to trick her into thinking our life was perfect. It makes no sense." I explain.
"She will come around, Peeta." Annie says, patting my back.
"Let's go home, Willow." I say to her.
She has tears welled up in her eyes and she looks up at me.
"I want to see Momma again." Willow cries.
"She isn't feeling too great right now so you can't go in there. We need to go home." I say.
"But Daddy-"
"No. Let's go." I sigh.
Finnick scoops her up, "Come on, Willow Tree."
"Finnick." She laughs in a whiney tone of voice.
Annie gives me a look, "Are you sure about this?"
"She has my phone number if she gets too desperate." I say.
"Peeta."
I swallow hard, "It's breaking my heart, Annie and she's hurting the kids. I can't do this. I need to put them first if she doesn't want my help."
"I just think she's confused and obviously she's not thinking like herself."
"That's not her." I say and I walk away.
I follow Finnick and Willow to their car where he gets their bags and Rye's car seat.
"If you need us call, Buddy." Finnick says pitifully.
I sigh, "We will be fine."
"Are you sure you want to leave her? You know her better than anyone. She will be lost without you."
"I didn't say I was leaving her but until she wants to actually believe me or actually wants any help, I'm not talking to her. You should've heard some of the things she said to me. I understand that she's confused and not thinking straight but for her to say she doesn't want to come back to our life together really fucking hurts, whether it's the truth or not." I say angrily.
"She said that?" Finnick says.
I groan, "She said something like, 'You made our life together seem like a fairy tale and it's not. Why would I want to go back to that?'"
"Damn, Peeta. I'm so sorry, you just gotta keep reminding yourself that's not her."
"It's her alright but she just doesn't remember who she is or her story or her life. Us. Anyone. Or anything. And besides having a blank slate, she's still really really stubborn."
"Well, that's a given." He sighs.
"I guess so."
"Are you sure you don't want Annie and I talking to her?"
"You could try but I don't think it'll help." I say truthfully.
Finnick nods, "You better get home."
