May 2010-

Jessica, her mother Dorthy, sisters Jane and Anne, and her brother George never thought the day would come that they would have to say goodbye to their husband and father forever. Their family grieved for months. In a way they all drifted apart after his death going their separate ways.

Al died Jessica's senior year of high school . Once she graduated she moved to NYC and never came back. Jessica left her high school sweetheart Daniel Huston. He didn't want her to leave but she left anyways leaving him with a single note. She never spoke to him again. She got a scholarship and she became a writer. She stayed at her apartment in New York on holidays and summers. Jessica and her family never really talked and she never got over her fathers death. Her mother would call once in a while and tried to become closer to Jessica. It was hard for Jessica to go back to her hometown. She had too many good and bad memories she didn't want to think about. She went to Minnesota 9 times in the last few years, only to meet her sister Ann's kids, for their birthdays and baptisms, and Janes wedding.

Jessica graduated in 2014 with a writing major. She worked for NY Magazine. On the side did photography. It was her safe place. Jessica enjoyed living in New York, in a way she created her own new life and a new beginning. She had many close friends that she hung out with including her best friend Sarah and Sam Shepard. Sarah worked in the fashion industry and owned her own boutique in Times Square. Jessica did lots of photography for Sarah to promote her business.

April - present time

Jessica sat in her office writing a new article on Meryl Streep for an April issue. As Jessica sat in her office her bosses manager, Sam, came into her office.

"How's my favorite writer?" Sam says with a smile.

"Hey Sam, and just finishing this article. What's up?"

"Well, I was talking to Mark, and he wants to give you another position."

"Another position? In writing? I don't know how many positions there are for writing." Jessica says with a puzzled look.

"Not exactly. He was looking at some of your work, your photography. He wants you to be a leading photographer for our shoots we have upstairs in the studio."

"No way? Are you serious?"

"Yes! You will still write your articles, but hey you'll have extra money. Not that you need anymore."

Jessica chuckles.

"You, Sarah, and I should all celebrate tonight."

"We should. Tell Mark I will take the job."

"You might get to travel..." Sam says

"This is so exciting!"

"You deserve it. And I think your phones ringing."

Jessica looks down at her phone and pauses when she sees it's her mother calling. Jessica took a deep breath and declined the call.

"Thank you Sam!" Jessica walks over and hugs him.

"I will call Sarah and we can go to that new bar."

"Sounds great. Just text me the details."

"I will, have a good day Jess."

"You too Sam."

After work Jessica went to her apartment to change then headed to the bar to meet Sarah, Sam, and a few other friends.

"I need to get wasted tonight!" Sarah says taking a shot.

"I feel ya." Sam says

"You guys are acting like little depressed babies. What's going on?"

"I made a deal with this clothing line to put some of their stuff in my shop and the delivery never came in. So some shelves are empty."

"Mark is kicking my ass, he's making me interview 4 celebrities in 2 hours."

"Wow. That's a lot." Jessica chuckles taking a sip of her beer.

"How about you Jessie, you keep checking that damn phone!" Sarah says

"My mothers been calling me. It's the first time since Christmas."

"Huh, wonder what she wants. Are you going to call her back?"

"Nah."

"Are you ever going to be close to your family again?"

"Let's not talk about that. Let's just get wasted and enjoy our night!" Jessica says holding up her glass

"Alrighty!"
