#mildsmut"You have stage 4 stomach cancer."
You couldn't quite grasp the words fast enough in your brain. It came too fast and you were beyond surprised. You opened your mouth to speak but couldn't seem to form the right words. You had to try a few times, trying to rebuild your train of thought before you can finally respond, "H-How is that possible? I don't have any vices. I don't smoke and I only drink on occasions. I take care of my body well. How can I have cancer?"
"No one can really predict it." Was what the doctor said to you, along with a sad look in his eyes.
"So I'm dying?" You mumbled loud enough for the doctor to hear as you stared at your cold, clammy hands.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Y/N." He replied simply.
You lifted your head up with a new found dignity and asked, "How long do I have?"
"A rough estimate of three months." The doctor added and you just nodded your head, "If you go for chemotherapy we can still prolong your life but I cannot assure you that it will be an easy process. Pain has always been a part of having Cancer."
You refused the doctor's offer, knowing that you cannot possibly keep up with the chemotherapy sessions with your current financial status. You could barely send money to your family back in your hometown. It was a good day, the weather was nice so you took the long way home. You passed by the playground and bought yourself an ice cream as you sat on the swing, watching people come and go. You didn't expect to be dying so soon. You were unprepared for this. You don't even know how to relay the news to your family and friends, especially to Hoseok, your husband.
It's only been a year since you married him and you haven't had enough time to spend with each other due to both of your jobs. He's an idol while you're working as a preschool teacher, driven by your love for kids. You hoped that someday you'll have your own flesh and blood, another pair of tiny feet between the two of yours but that's just impossible now. Everything you've planned ahead of you; children, a family ㅡ it all went down the drain.
It was the coldness of the pillow that welcomed you when you got home. You spent more than an hour crying in your bedroom, trying to gather yourself up but the broken pieces of your dreams just won't fit together again. You stayed in bed all afternoon until it was almost time for Hoseok to be home that you stood up on your feet again and tried to fix yourself to look okay again. Anytime now he'll open the door and look for you, he'll hug you warmly and ask you about your day then he'll tell you about his. Your life was that simple but you loved every minute of it because you're with someone who loves you and that's enough reason for you to fix yourself up again, put on a smile and welcome him home.
You positioned yourself on the couch and turned the TV on, pretending so well as he opened the front door and drop his bag on the table. His arms went around you and his lips pecked your cheek before he spoke in your ear, "Guess who's home on time."
You smiled and held his arms, turning your face towards him, "I'm guessing my husband."
