"Need help?"You looked up to see someone walking towards you as you struggled to push the heavy basket of gym materials inside the gym storage room. He smiled at you and then easily pushed the basket with you and when you were done with the assigned task that you were supposed to do with three more people, you turned to face him.
"Thanks for helping out." You told him and he smiled again. You didn't know anyone yet since you transferred last week but he looks familiar. Where have you seen him again?
"It was nothing. I'm Park Jimin by the way." He reached his hand out for a handshake. "Don't you remember me?"
"Uhm, I don't think we've met before." You retrieved your hand with a puzzled look on your face.
Jimin chuckled, making you stare at him and wonder if you said anything funny, "It's okay if you don't remember. We never talked to each other back then anyway."
"Back then?" You raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah. I'm from Busan too. We used to be in the same grade together but we never were in the same class." He said with another smile as you both walked out of the gym in your gym clothes.
"I'm sorry. I really don't remember." You looked at him apologetically. "I hope you don't think of me being rude or something."
"It's okay." He said as you both stopped in front of the changing rooms, "We didn't have a chance to be friends back then but we can start now?"
You smiled at him, glad that there was someone who wanted to be friends with you. He offered to wait until you're done changing and then you walked home together. Luckily, his home was on the same route to yours so you had a longer time talking about random things like your hometown, your old school, his old friends, your friends and etcetera. It was so fun chatting with him that you didn't realize that you've reached your house and you had to say goodbye.
"This is my house." You told Jimin, "Thanks for walking together with me and for helping me out earlier."
"By the way, why were you doing those things alone. I know you're supposed to do it with someone else." Jimin questioned.
"Yeah, I was but they left. It's fine actually." You just shrugged your shoulders.
"You shouldn't let them push you around. Sooner or later, they'll take advantage of you. I was just like you when I first came here that's why I was worried about you when I first heard someone transferred from Busan." Jimin added and then smiled, "But I didn't know it was you and that you don't remember that we used to go to the same school."
"I'm really sorry." You chuckled then your mother called for you from inside the gate.
"I think you need to go in. You can make it up to me some other time." Jimin waved back at you as he walked away. "See you tomorrow!"
The next few weeks of school was better because of Jimin. He helped you adjust to the new school and made you laugh everyday. At first, he was your only friend then gradually, you began to have other friends and gained new best friends in your class. You walk home with Jimin every single day until the end of the school year. Everything is finally coming up roses for you and every night you prayed that the next day would be better.
