In this chapter I will show you how to dress to flatter your body shape. And also at the end of the chapter I have advised what to avoid as a petite woman.
Firstly, finding out what body shape you are
Pear Shaped :
Hourglass :
Rectangle :
Oval shaped :
Pear Shaped Body :
If you have a pear shaped body you will want tops and jackets that show off your slender upper body while creating a fuller illusion in the right places to achieve that balance if the fuller hips.
You will also want to focus on pants and skirts that minimise your lower half by slimming. Darker colours and clean straight lines are ideal.
Almost any heel is an asset to lengthen your figure by reducing the difference between your hips and shoulders.
Do's
- large v or u-necks
- horizontal stripes
- big lapels
- padding or embellishments on shoulders
- cropped tops
- wide leg or straight leg pants and jeans
- a-line skirts that are fitted at the hips
- darker colours
- heels to lengthen your figure
- peep-toe shoes
- boots that cut off just under the knee
Don't's
- tops and jackets with decorative patterns that cut off at the bottom
- shapeless tops
- pencil skirts which cling at the hips
- bottoms made of stiffer materials
- Capri-style pants
- extremely high heels
- pointy flats rather than rounded style
- low-cut bootsHourglass Shaped Body :
If you have an hourglass shaped body you have a very feminine curvy figure, you will need to find the right tops to accentuate this but not appearing heavy.
Just about all bottoms look great on you, when paired with the right top to show off your silhouette.
The look of an hourglass figure in stilettos is hard to top.
Do's
- scooped and v-necklines
- tops that sit at the waist
- clean lined jackets and coats which are well cut and fitted
- pencil skirts and a-line skirts
- jeans that are fitted around the hips and backside
- knee-high boots
- stiletto and other heels
- peep toes/rounded shoes
Don't's
- higher necklines
- shapeless cuts
- baby doll tops or empire cuts
- embellishments around the hips and bust
- baggy and shapeless bottoms
- overly short skirts
- skirts that end at the thickest part of your thigh/leg
- pointed shoes
- chunky heelsRectangle Shaped Body :
If you have a rectangle shapes body your going to want to look for pants and jeans with details on the hips to add dimensions.
The best style tops, dresses, sweaters or jackets for you are ones that are fitted at the waist line.
The best skirt styles are pencil, circle and flared. Belts are also good for your body type as they accentuate your waist.
Do's
- nipped tops, dresses, jackets
- different patterns
- neutral coloured belt
Don't's
- shapeless clothing

- extra accessories on waist lineOval Shaped Body :
If you have an oval shaped body you are going to want tops that enhance the volume to your bust and shoulders while also emphasising and defining your waistline.
When browsing for bottoms, stick to those that would enhance your natural curves instead of adding bulkiness.
Oval shaped women don't have any problem in finding the right pair of shoes.
Do's
