The thunderstorm was coming.
Low, dark clouds began to form, growling quietly. The air heavy, becoming tense waiting for the downfall. Wind had started to howl and cry out as it rushed by, preparing for the rain. Trees began to shake with fear, and leaves mixed with dirt twirled around, making mini-twisters. Although the wind was howling, a stillness had fallen on the street. Street lights flickered on, lighting only parts of the dark street.
Without waiting for the rain, thunder rolled across the sky in a malevolent force that would scare the devil himself. The untamed power echoed in the sky, and when the first crack of lightening lightened the sky, rain began to fall. It started light and as the thunder boomed in the sky, it soon came down heavier, smacking onto the pavement as if to break it.
Families were closing their windows against the relentless storm, protecting themselves from the howling wind. Children were now inside, sitting in front of the fire with a hot drink and blanket. Not even the birds could be seen in the sky. They had found shelter and stayed away from the angry storm.
Hana looked from her bedroom window, watching as puddles formed and the strikes of lightening showing the dark clouds shapes. Her light was off, her house quiet and she was at peace. Since her parents had died, she never left the house. She would occasionally step into her garden, but she was scared to go further than the end of her front garden. Her elderly neighbour's, and a family across the street would bring her food, drink and any necessities she needed. But she wouldn't leave the house.
Hana knew what would be waiting for her if she stepped off her safe ground.
A clap of thunder made her smile. Hana never heard her neighbour's talking, or even watching TV. Her house was always quiet and she rarely turned a light on. Hana preferred the dark, and when it was dark, there was less of a chance for people to knock on her front door. It was her safe place, and she didn't want people to take that away from her.
The house she lived in was large, and sat further back than her neighbour's house. There was a wide alleyway either side of her house, leading to garages for her house and the neighbour each side. The only thing she did hear were animals or the growling of those wanting to get into her house.
She was safe. They couldn't get in. Not unless she let them in. Hana wasn't going to do that. Her parents didn't listen to her and that was why they died. Even at their funeral, Hana wanted to get away and protect herself. Her extended family didn't understand and thought that she was crazy. Hana was alone...but it was safer.
A grumble burnt her stomach and she got to her feet, heading to the kitchen. Her bare feet quietly moving her along the house. Her neighbour's had delivered some food, so she could eat today.
After making herself a sandwich, she made her way to the living room and curled up on the large corner sofa, to watch a film. Hana had seen every film in her house too many times, and could mime every word and action. Since there was nothing to do, she memorised nearly every word to a few books and found an interest in the art of Wicca. She wasn't sure whether it worked or not, but she had been experimenting. So far, nothing.
She wanted to speak to her parents or grandmother, but still...no response.
Hana finished her sandwich and grabbed her laptop, searching for spells to summon a demon to help her with talking to her parents. Hana found something and rushed around the house in search of what she needed.
A black feather. A black candle. 3 rocks.
Hana found herself bubble with excitement as she placed the rocks in a triangle and lit the candle in the middle of the triangle. She lit the feather and sat crossed legged in front of the triangle.
Hopefully, it would get rid of the evil things around her, trying to kill her. Or at least, get a low level spirit to help her out. If she made a contract with one, then they would have to do anything she told them. As much as she loved the safety of her home, she wanted to explore the world she had lost track of. Hana hadn't stepped foot away from her safe place for over 3 years.
"Hear, hear my words" She started "A spirit from the other side, hear my words. I call you from my mind to yours. Come back from the shadows and show yourself here"
Hana opened an eye and dropped the burning feather into a bowl of water. She sighed. Nothing ever worked. As she got up to clear up, her eyes caught a word on her laptop screen. She frowned and scrolled down. She dropped the candle and cursed. This wasn't a spell to bring back a spirit, not with the black candle and feather. She groaned.
She had got too ahead of herself and didn't read the page. White candles were meant to bring back a spirit, not black.
Hana shrugged "Oh well"
It wasn't like the spell worked anyway. With another shrug, Hana cleared up and headed upstairs, feeling tired.
The storm had quietened down, and the rain was soothing to her ears. With a quick change, she jumped into bed and hugged her cuddly pig to her. It was the last thing her parents had bought her, and no matter how old she got, she wasn't going to give it up.
With a large sigh, she closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.
