"Avery, Micheal!" Professor McGonagall called out for the whole Great Hall to hear.
A tall boy with a troll-like face stepped up and sat on the four-legged stool, then placed the hat on his head. No sooner then three seconds did the hat yell; "Slytherin!"
Lyra barely payed attention, her eyes were scanning the Slytherin table. She could spot her cousin, Narcissa emmidiatly by her blonde hair. Narcissa's eyes found Lyra's, they stared at eachother for a while, before Narcissa scoffed and tossed her long hair over her shoulder; then she turned to her boyfriend, who was a prefect.
Lyra rolled her eyes and searched through the many heads and was glad to find Andromeda, her other cousin. Andromeda smiled and waved a little, before turning to her red haired friend.
"Black, Lyra!" McGonagall called suddenly.
Lyra gulped, suddenly nervous. She rushed foreward and sat on the stool, putting the batted old hat on her head and stiffened when it started to talk
"Interesting, interesting," the hat whispered in my mind. "You are very smart, and very cunning, but you tend to run more on your heart then your brain. . . You are very dedicated also, something Hufflepuff treasures, but you have almost zero patience. . .I know. . . GRYFFINDOR!"
There was booming applause from the Gryffindor table. Lyra smiled widely and ripped the hat off. She threw it high in the air and ran towards the Gryffindor table, not noticing the glare she was receiving from her cousin Narcissa.
The second Lyra sat at the table hands shot out and shook her hands and patted her back. Lyra couldn't think of a time she had been any happier.
When the applause died down, Lyra crossed her fingers under the table.
"Black, Sirius!" McGonagall called, still looking flustered that one of her Gryffindors had thrown the Sorting hat in the air, hitting the Herbology teacher in the face.
Sirius grinned, hoping he didn't look as sick as he felt. He sat on the stool, and the hat sat on his head for at least a minute before calling out for the great hall to hear; "GRYFFINDOR!"
Sirius ripped off the hat and shook his black hair out of his face, eager to join his sister in the applauding table.
Sirius sat beside Lyra who gave him a hug and muttered a 'congratulations you big dope'. Sirius grinned goofily at his sister before turning to watch the sorting with everyone else.
As the sorting went on, the red headed girl that Lyra and Sirius had met in the compartment, known as Lily Evans joined the Gryffindors, along with James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, and Frank Longbottom. Severes Snape, to no ones surprise, ended up in Slytherin with Avery, Mulciber, Nott, and Crabbe.
"I knew you two would end up in Gryffindor," James said loudly to Lyra and Sirius. "No doubt in my mind."
"Yeah, me neither," Lyra lied.
"That's why you were sweating buckets?" Sirius asked, raising one eyebrow.
"You're one to talk," Lyra said, blushing when the boys laughed.
"Excuse me? But will you guys stop laughing so you can pass me the beans?" said a snarky voice.
James, Sirius, and Lyra stopped laughing and turned to glare at Lily Evans, who seemed to think she was better then them because she was glaring down at each of them with an air of supiriority.
Lyra passed the beans to Evans and watched as she walked away to the other Gryffindor girls. "I can't believe I'm going to have to share a dorm with Crybaby Evans and the Gossip Girls." Lyra whined.
"Yeah, sucks for you," James said with a grin. "My dorm mates aren't so bad."
Lyra frowned as she inspected his dorm mates. Remus Lupin had feint scars on his face, but otherwise looked pretty nice, Peter Pettigrew looked a little too eager to talk to anyone around him but he might just want to make friends, and Frank Longbottom seemed to always be laughing, he looked as though he were a fun guy.
Then Lyra looked at her dorm mates. Lily Evans kept glancing at Severes but then seemed to forget all about him when someone spoke to her, so she didn't seem like a really good friend; then there was Mary MacDonald who looked very loud and liked to be in the center of everyones attention; then there was Alice Longbottom, who looked all clumzy and shy.
"Merlin, help me," Lyra banged her head on the table and the boys laughed.
