Lyra was sitting next to her husband in the plump chair next to the hospital bed. She had one of her hands in his and the other was stroking his thin grey hair lovingly. He didn't respond to her touch, but stared up into the ceiling quietly.
"They are so big now," Lyra was saying softly. "Lynx looks exactly like me, but she has your eyes. And Will looks exactly like you, except my eyes. They are both so beautiful - but you already know that, you've seen them."
Lyra didn't bother to pause, she knew Nick wouldn't respond anyways.
"Lynx is a little rebel like I was, but she's really sweet," Lyra kept saying. "She loves animals and they love her - she seems to have a soft spot for them; especially dogs. She's not much of a cat person, I found that very offensive."
Lyra laughed by herself, remembering the time she told Lynx and WIll that she was a cat animagus and Lynx said she wished she was a dog. Lyra didn't like hearing that, she had been thinking about Sirius, but she kept a fake smile on her face and told Lynx the story of how she became an animagus with three other friends and Remus - who was a werewolf. She never said her friends' names, and Lynx and WIll didn't ask, most likely thinking that her friends died in the Wizarding War.
"Will is exactly like you, through and through," Lyra said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Very handsome, funny, sensative. . . though I wish he would do better with his grades."
Lyra thought of all the Es Will had sent home to her. She had been so disappointed, because her and Nick had gotten splendid grades when they were younger - but then she shook it off, not everyone had natural instinct like her or Nick's brains.
"I've told them about Sirius," Lyra said. "Lynx wasn't pleased that I kept a secret from her - we're really close, you know. We tell eachother everything. But then I told her the full story and she understood, she always understands. Will was so sweet about it too. He was comforting me and everything. I guess they know why I never look at the Daily Prophet anymore - the last time I looked, Sirius' face was on it. . . saying he was a murderer."
Lyra saw the headline in the back of her eyes and shook her head.
"Is it bad that I believe he killed all those muggles and Peter?" Lyra asked Nick, knowing he would not answer. "I would never believe that he was capable of that but James and Lily did pick him as Secret Keeper - they wouldn't have picked anyone else."
Lyra bit her lip.
"I should hate him for killing Lily and James, they were my best friends," Lyra said sadly. "But I can't hate my brother. Remus says he hates Sirius, but I know he misses him almost as much as I do."
Lyra layed her head on Nick's thin chest.
"Do you miss your memories? Or do you not remember how it feels to miss something?" Lyra said. "Mad-Eye said that ALice and Frank would rather die then live like they are now. Would you rather die then this? I sure hope you don't, that would mean that I am keeping you alive for very selfish reasons. . . You know I'm still hoping you will get on your feet one morning and call my name? Pathetic, I know. . ."
Lyra sighed quietly.
"I wish they hadn't've locked Bellatrix and her Death Eater followers up. I would really like to get her. I owe her." Lyra said this harshly, Bellatrix's laughing face popping in her head. Lyra shook her head. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be so bitter. Let's think of a happy time. . ."
Lyra pondered at this. She remembered the happy times of her life clearly, because that's what she held on to to get through this harsh life. She wasn't one to dwell on bad memories.
"Oh, I know!" Lyra lifted her head and smiled at Nick, who didn't smile back. "The first time we ever met! We didn't do much talking but when I looked at you I knew there was something speical about you. I couldn't go p and talk to you because you were teaching us how to apparate, I didn't manage easily - there were too many things in my mind at the moment."
