"She's been mean to us since first year!" Mary Macdonald hissed to Evans when Evans told her about what she and Lyra had talked about. "Has she even apologized to you?"
"We didn't need to say it," Evans insisted. "We already knew we were sorry and we both forgave eachother."
"If she doesn't have the guts to say it then I'm not going to help her," Mary snapped.
"Just forgive her, Mary," Marlene McKinnon said. "She must have been lonely, just having her brother and his friends to talk to."
"And the whole school practically drooling at her feet," Mary shot back.
"This isn't about her popularity," Evans said, not liking her friends fighting. "This is about her needing help, and do you really want to stoop to her level by not helping her but watching her make a fool of herself, Mary?"
"It would give me some satisfaction, yes," Mary nodded.
"Please, Mary," Evans begged. "I want to help her. We could finally become friends."
Mary glared at Evans, but her expression softened before she sighed dramatically. "Fine - Fine! I'll help you help her, but don't expect me to go buddy buddy with her."
Alice shook her head. "The boy must be really important if she's willing to ask for our help. I wonder who it is?"
"Maybe James Potter," Mary said.
"Don't be rediculus," Evans snapped.
"Why not?" Mary asked. "She spends enough time with him."
"She also spends time with Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin," Marlene said.
"Yes but she would never go for those two," Mary rolled her eyes. "They're too. . . quiet."
Evans' heart sank. What if it was James? Had he finally given up on her?
Just at that moment, Lyra walked in, her eyes still shining as bright as a star in the sky. She glanced at her dormitory roomates curiously, wondering why they were all huddled in the corner.
"Lyra!" Evans said, jumping to her feet and running over to Lyra, who was astonished at being called by her first name. "The girls agreed to help you."
"Really?" Lyra was surprised that it didn't take her begging on one knee. "Great."
Evans smiled. "We don't have much time so can I look through your things?"
Lyra nodded, adgusting her bag's strap on her shoulder and following Evans and her friends to her trunk. Evans tried to open it with no luck.
"Did you lock it?" ALice asked, confused.
"I wasn't going to leave it with no protection," Lyra said, taking out her wand and pointing at her trunk. "Open." She said and the trunk sprang open.
She sat on her bed and watched all of the girls go through her things eagerly. Even Mary, who loathed her, was eager to see what the mysterious Lyra Black had in her trunk.
"You don't have any skirts?" Marlene asked, not seeing anything that was girl enough to go on a date.
"No," Lyra gave her a weird look. "Out of all the times you've seen me, have you ever seen me wear any skirt besides the uniform?"
Marlene widened her eyes as she realised that she hadn't. "Well, I guess you could wear one of our skirts."
"I have a nice blue one," Alice said cheerfully, jumping to her feet and rushing over to her trunk. "And I think you're my size."
Alice took out a plain dark blue skirt that had to end right above one's knees. She held it up and glanced between it and Lyra's waist.
"no. . ." ALice said, frowning. "You're smaller then me. . . you could try on one of Lily's - she looks about your size."
Evans' smile brightened and she snapped the trunk closed. Mary sighed in disapointment, she had fun skimming through Lyra's stuff. Evans went to her trunk and opened it up, siffled through her clothes, and brought out a dark green one.
"Do you want to try this one?" Evans asked.
"I don't like green," Lyra said, trying to keep all of the bitterness out of her voice.
"Oh?" Evans said, shocked. "Well, I have a grey skirt, if you want?"
"Sure," Lyra said, interested. She doubted a grey skirt would look nice at all, but Evans had nice clothes, so it must look pretty.
Evans took out a skirt as small as Alice's blue one and held it up. It was perfectly plain, but stll managed to look pretty.
"I like it," Lyra said, trying desperatly not to squeil.
Evans smiled. "And that light blue shirt you have would look nice with it too."
"And those dark grey earings would go perfectly with it," Alice put in, opening the trunk and taking out the shirt and earings. "I wouldn't do too much with jewelry, though. Maybe add this necklace."
"And you can put your hair up," Marlene added, jumping on Lyra's bed and playing with her hair. "It'll show off your neck."
"But putting it down would show off her eyes," Alice disagreed. "Right Lily?"
Evans smiled at her friends and Lyra, who looked as though they never had trouble between them. "She always has her hair down, though; she should try something differant."
Marlene smiled at Alice teasingly.
"Who are you going on a date with, anyways?" Mary asked, annoyed that her friends were falling into Lyra's trap already.
"Cormac Stars," Lyra said, her grey eyes misting over.
Mary stared at Lyra in horror and unflattering astonishment.
"Really?" Evans asked, her eyes wide. She was relieved that it wasn't James.
"Yeah," Lyra sighed.
"Oooh!" Marlene gasped. "He's so cute! You're so lucky!"
Lyra was soon tackled with a hug, that Alice and Evans soon joined in. Mary joined in too, but Lyra hardly noticed that Mary was squiezing her a little to tightly to be considered friendly.
