Lyra and Nick had had a splendid time together after that. Christmas was lonely because their children had spent as much time as possible away from them after they realized that Nick had taken Lyra’s side, but other than that they were doing better. Lynx had actually said good morning to her mother at one point.
Really, Lyra was starting to get annoyed with her children. As their mother, she had a right to deny them of anything that might put them in danger. They were acting as though they were grown-ups; as though they were warriors! They were just children, and this war was messing with their gullible heads. Not to mention with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger on some sort of important mission, it must make her children feel unbelievably useless.
But they were naïve, they were innocent, they thought that fighting for the wizarding community would be fun – a way to pass time and maybe get a few more admirers. Maybe if they realized just how tough everything was, then they would give up this sick obsession of fighting.
Lyra sighed in frustration and pressed her lips together. Too bad she couldn’t teach them a lesson.
Nick walked by her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before traveling over to the refrigerator to see what there was to cook. He looked healthy for someone who was constantly fighting in the war with his flushed cheeks and his sun-kissed skin. Unlike Lyra, he looked like he spent his days going out on picnics and helping old ladies walk across the street.
Lyra looked like she trekked through a jungle and swam her way across a sea of ferocious sea beasts. Her ink black hair was always tangled and her skin was an unhealthy pasty color, like she never saw the sun. This was sort of true, because it was too dangerous to go out during the day for her, and at night she always hid from anyone’s view. Really, the only one she saw in days was Nick, who never commented on her scrappy appearance.
Little did she know that she was about to see plenty of people in just a few hours.
The phone rang. Unlike most wizards, Nick fancied muggle supplies – for a reason Lyra didn’t know. But it came out useful sometimes, like when other wizards had the same devices.
Lyra got to her feet and picked up the rectangular box, which had a place to put your ear and a place to speak into. The second she picked it up, a voice started coming from the ear place.
“Hello? Lyra? Nick?”
Nick turned from his food search and crossed his arms with a smirk on his face. He always got a kick out of watching her use the muggle technology. What a prat.
“Hello?” Lyra asked skeptically through the mouth piece.
“Lyra?”
“Remus?” Lyra’s brow wrinkled. She hadn’t known that Remus had a muggle phone. “Is that you? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing’s wrong! Nothing at all!” Remus’ voice sounded funny. “Lyra – you won’t believe this but – I’m at Tonks’ house-“
