James stood tall in front of all the Gryffindors who wanted to try out for the Quidditch team. Some of them were taller then him, but none of them held the confidance that he did.
He noticed that there were only three girls, all of them were tall and looked athletic; but they were much shorter then all the other men.James, who never doubted a girl's skill in Quidditch, looked at them too as he spoke; because he had seen the Holyhead Harpies play alot of games and they always seemed to win or loose triumphantly.
"There are six openings," James said loudly, looking around him. "I need two chasers, two beaters, one keeper and one seeker. I will only have the best on my team, and if you are not fully devoted to Quidditch and all of it's practices, then you might as well leave now."
No one moved.
James signed and rolled his eyes. "What I mean by that is, if you choose Muggle Studies studying or Herbology studying over a Quidditch practice, then you will be off the team. So might as well save yourself the embarrassment now and just leave."
One of the short scrawny boys who would had the building of an exceptional seeker signed and hurried out of the Quidditch feild. The other kids rolled their eyes at the boy in exasperation and turned back to James, who wasn't pleased to loose the kid - he looked very skilled.
James was about to open his mouth to continue but he heard a familiar voice shout; "Wait! I'm here - we're here - I'm here!"
James turned around and stared at Lyra who was rushing over, broom in hand and her hair in a tight knot at the back of her head; she looked very pretty.
"You're late," James said, his voice stern. He didn't want to take it easy on her because he was her best friend. "And that means you don't take Quidditch seriously."
"She does," James heard another voice say, stepping out from behind Lyra. James blinked a couple of times and seen Lily, who was dressed in shorts and a button up shirt. "I've accidentally mixed up the date when I told her about practices. It's my fault; I'm sorry."
James, speechless that Lily was talking to him and not yelling, nodded slightly; mezmerized my her beauty.
"S'kay," James mumbled. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm going to watch," Lily said, smiling slightly at him and making his heart miss a beat. "Is that alright?"
"Yeah. . . yeah, it's alright," James said absenminily. He heard snickers behind him and he heard kissing noises. Lily blushed and rushed off to the stands.
"So am I off the hook?" Lyra asked, stairing at James as though he were only her Quidditch captain and not her friend.
"Yes, you're off the hook," James said. Lyra joined the group. "Don't be late again."
"I won't, captain," Lyra saluted him and stood between to tall boys. It took James a while to realise that one of them was Cormac Stars.
"Now, I want everyone to take a lap around the whole Quidditch feild," James said. "Mount your brooms."
Lyra mounted her broom, holding it tightly in her hands. It wasn't the fastest broom, but she didn't believe that you had to have a fast broom to be skillfull. Her favorite team, the Holyhead Harpies, didn't have great brooms - but they won almost every game.
"Ready?" James called. "Go!"
Lyra stomped on the ground swftly and took off in the air, pressing her body flat against the broom to gain speed.
Cormac passed her easily, but he had been playing Quidditch since his second year, so it was only natural that he was the better flier. Lyra flattened against her broom even more, trying to pass the others.
