"Had a good few last days?" Lyra asked her children as they stepped down the train and walked over to her.
Lyra couldn't help but notice the differance in her children, and seeing it made her heart ache.
Lynx looked smaller down, with the eyes filled with a light that only an adult should have, not a fourteen year old girl. And she didn't look as confideant anymore, she jumped at noises and skirted around people who were in her way instead of rudely pushing them aside. Though Lyra had constantly chastised her daughter for doing this, not seeing her doing it was awful.
Then Will had grown his hair so long he sometimes had to flip it out of his eyes. Will had always liked his hair up to his ears, no further, but he grew it because he didn't want people to see his scarred face - it did little good.
Everyone who say him sent him small smiles, as though he were a hero that faced a tragedy no one could undo - which he was.But it didn't mean he had to like it.
"It was okay," Lynx murmered, then she glanced around at all the people watching them. "Can we go now?"
"Sure," Lyra said, glad someone else suggested it. "Let's go." She led her children out the door, trying to avoid all the stares being sent her way.
