"I cannot believe he called me that!" Evans was shouting to the other girls in the dorm. Lyra rolled around, wishing sleep would come so she wouldn't have to hear Cry-Baby Evans. "Me! I was only trying to help him!"

"You shouldn't worry about it, he doesn't deserve your friendship," Mary Macdonald soothed.

"We told you that he was a prat," Alice Smith added.

"We were best friends," Evans shreiked. "He humiliated me in front of everyone! I'm never going to forgive him for this. Never."

"No one expected you to, Evans," Lyra snapped, her pateince breaking.

There was a silence.

"What is that supposed to mean, Black?" Evans said quietly.

"It's supposed to mean," Lyra said, wrenching open her curtains and glaring at Evans, who was surrounded by the girls. "You are many things, Evans, but the one thing you are not is a good friend."

Evans green eyes widened. "I am a very good friend! I've put up with all of Sev's friends - and they're awful!"

"No, you don't 'put up' with them," Lyra said. "In fact, you never even spoke to them, so you should have no objection."

"Oh, because you're the expert on friendship, you barely have some!" Mary snapped, coming to her firends defense.

"I have friends, true friends," Lyra said. "My friends actually care about my feelings. Just because a bunch of people wave hi to you when you walk past them, MacDonald, doesn't mean they're your friends."

"Just ignore her, Mary," Alice said quietly.

"Yes, Mary ignore the only girl in here who knows a thing or two about friendship." Lyra sneered.

"You and Potter aren't friends, Black!" Evans got to her feet, glaring at Lyra. "You are in this stupid little gang who gang up on one person."

"Don't act like you know us, Evans, because you'll just embarrass yourself," Lyra got to her feet and poked Evans in the chest as hard as she could. "If you were really Snivellus' friend you would be crying right now because of what he called you. I know it would be like a stab to the heart if one of my friends called me that."

"Oh, please, you never cry," Mary said coldly. Mary grabbed Evans elbow and yanked her away from Lyra who watched in amusement. "You just don't get it."

"You're right, I don't," Lyra said, grabbing her pillow and blanket. "I'm going to sleep with the boys. You guys can pretend to be sad all you want."

Lyra left the angry girls in the dorm and rushed to the boys' Dormitory, where she could finally get some peace and quiet.
