The funeral, to say the least, was depressing. A group of crying girls were in the front while a group of crying men were huddling in the back trying not to be seen.
"Cormac," Lynx said into her boyfriend's shoulder. "I can't believe what happened. It's just impossible to think that Dumbledore won't say the welcome back feast next year."
Lynx's expression changed from confusion to terrible pain, then back again in just two seconds.
"I know," Cormac said, wanting to wrap an arm around her and protect her from everything, but he was sure Lynx would rip his arm off for even thinking something like that.
"And the worst part is my mother can't stop crying," Lynx continued. "I'm not sure if I even want to come back next year. I'm not sure she can take care of herself ..."
"No," Cormac shook his head. "You're going to finish your education. You're not old enough to drop out. If your brother decides to then fine; but not you, Lynx."
Lynx pulled away from him, furious; but before she could say anything someone coughed from behind them.
Both teenagers turned to see Lyra, Nick, and Remus standing behind them, eyebrows raised and arms crossed.
"Mum?" Lynx said, flushing and taking a huge step away from Cormac.
"Lynx," Lyra smirked, for once looking like her normal self. "Who's this?"
"Yes, Lynx," Nick wasn't smiling. "Who is this?"
"My, er. . ." Lynx looked uncomfortably at Cormac, who raised on eyebrow at her.
"Her boyfriend," Cormac said, a bit offended that she didn't introduce him, but he masked it up and grinned at Lyra, sticking out his hand. "Hi, you must be Lynx's mum."
Lyra shook his hand catiously, her smirk slipping. The way he gave that grin was familiar to her, not the face or the hair but the arrogance.
Remus must have noticed it too because he shared a glance with her that didn't reasure Lynx one bit.
"And what's his name?" Nick looked very annoyed. "And what does he plan to do after school? Can we meet up with his parents some time?"
Lyra elbowed Nick in the ribs.
Lynx looked mortified but introduced them. "This is my mum, my father, and Remus, my. . . sort of like an uncle."
Lynx was pleased to note the flush of pleasure that glowed in Remus' cheecks. She knew sucking up would work in times of need.
"Mum, Dad, Remus. . . this is my boyfriend, Cormac McLaggen," Lynx said.
The adults froze at the name Cormac. Remus and Lyra thought of that time when she cried into Sirius' arms all night because of an arrogant boy named who broke her heart, and Nick remembered Sirius threatening him in private to never break his sisters heart like 'that prat Cormac Stars' did.
"Your name is Cormac?" Lyra demanded, recognizing the arrogance now.
"Yes," Cormac said, not noticing the obvious tension.
Lyra narrowed her eyes at him, then straightened up. "Well, I'll be seeing you Cormac. . . Nick? Remus? Are you two coming?"
"Yeah," Remus said warily. "Bye Lynx. . . Cormac."
"Yeah, see you," Nick said tensely.
When the adults were by the lake, they were in a furious conversation.
"Maybe they are differant," Remus said, always trying to be the voice of reason. "Their names are the only thing alike."
"Oh please," Lyra scoffed viciously. "You and I both seen that arrogant look when he smiled at us. He's exactly like Cormac Stars. And if he dares do the same thing to my baby as Cormac Stars did to me, then, oooh. . . he won't see the light of another day."
Nick still looked furious. "Are we just going to pout about this or actually do something?"
Remus and Lyra glanced at eachother, then Lyra nodded and put a hand on Nick's shoulder. "Look, Nick, I'm not sure if you remember but. . . teenage girls don't listen to anyone when it comes to their love life."
"Love," Nick smiled at Lyra. "I'm her dad. I think she'll listen to me."
"I didn't listen to Sirius," Lyra said. "And he's my brother. Girls tend to listen to their brothers more then their fathers about boys."
"So we're just going to do. . . nothing?" Nick couldn't believe his ears. "We're going to let him break our baby girl's heart?"
Lyra shrugged helplessly. "Lynx is stubborn, the only thing that would make her see sense is if she learns the hard way."
"And lets hope that doesn't happen." Remus said grimly
