A year past.

A year that was so eventful for each member of the Blue family, yet none of them were expecting anything like this to happen.

As Lynx and Will were engulfed with black powder so dark they couldn't see their fingers in front of their faces, they thought about their year.

Lynx remembered kissing Cormac McLaggen under the Whomping Willow. The branches had been swinging wildly, and their was a deathly cold blizzard swilring around them, but somehow with his arms around her and his lips pressing against hers; she felt warm, she felt safe.

Will thought of all the pitiful stares he got from his best friends Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas, and all the awed yet disgusted looks from the girls. They had all made him feel weird inside, as though the scars were a tragedy that had ruined his life. But every morning he got a letter from Estelle, and all the letters made him feel like the old Will - the Will who could smile without anyone wincing at the image.

And as Lyra ran with the other Order members into the castle to protect the children, Lyra thought of how everything could have went so wrong after such a brilliant year. Nick was slowly remembering everything, he took her out on dates and now he was able to say 'I love you' and looked as though he meant it.

But everything was wrong now.

The beautiful year had turned into a tragedy the moment Albus Dumbledore left the castle, leaving the students of Hogwarts to fend for themselves.

"Lyra!" Remus barked, his face pale and a bit wild but otherwise calm. "Go protect the second floor, make sure any student that comes through goes back to their common room emmidiatly!"

Lyra nodded stiffly and raced up the stone steps, and couldn't help but remember when she used to run up these steps when she was eleven, Sirius chasing her from behind as he tried to hit her with a tickling charm. They had been so happy. . .

"Lynx! Will!" Lyra shouted as she seen two slim figures running down the steps, looking out of breath but not hurt. "Get back to your common rooms!"

"No!" Lynx shouted. "I want to fight!"

"Will," Lyra struggled to stay calm. She could hear the Death Eaters getting closer. "Take your sister to your com-"

"No, Mum," Will shook his head. "I can't. You know she'll sneak out anyway."

"Now, Will," Lyra demanded in her best 'mum' voice. "You will obey me. I am your mother."

"Mum," Will said. "This is our school. We have to fight to protect it."

Lyra felt like she was going to cry. She had never heard her son sound so responsible, so much like a hero, so much like Harry - she didn't know whether to be proud or terribly sad that he had grown up too fast.

"Will," Lyra said, her voice shaking too much to sound stern. "Please, Will. Please. . ."

Will's beautiful grey eyes became a bit misty and the corners of his lips trembled a bit. He didn't like the image of his mother begging, but she was being selfish trying to bring them out of trouble and fighting herself.

"Mum," Will said, taking her hand firmly in his scarred one. "We're Blues. We fight together."

Lyra sniffled but smiled. "Fine. You're father is coming, so I guess this would be a nice family moment."

Lynx whooped and whipped out her wand as a group of Death charged into the corridor.

"Ready?" Lyra shouted.

"Ready!" Will and Lynx replied in harmony.

And the fired their best spells.

Will's spell hit a death eater square in the chest and sent him flying to the wall. Lynx's missed the girl Death Eater by inches and Lyra's hit one in the foot, instantly breaking it.

The battle wasn't as feirce as the ones the Order used to do, but it was still dangerous enough to set Lyra on edge. Every time a spell would get close to one of her children or her husband, she would send a quick curse back.

This caused her to have some cuts on her arms and face, but they were things that could be healed.

"Somethings happened!" Nick said, battling a Death Eater whose spells weren't as vicious anymore. "They're running!"

Lyra noticed this too. There wasn't as many Death Eaters, and the one she was battling looked as though he was going to use any distraction of hers as a moment to flee. The concieted part of her brain thought it was because they were so good, but she knew something must have happened to make them want to leave.

"What's wrong?" Lynx taunted from behind Lyra. "Scared, little Death Eater? Well, that's reasonable!"

"Lynx!" Lyra snapped.

"Yes, Lynx!" snarled the girl death eater. "Listen to your Mummy and go back to bed!"

Lynx snarled and threw another spell out of fury that bounced off the wall and flew straight into her face, knocking her out cold. She crumpled to the floor in a small heap.

"Lynx!" Lyra whirled around and the second she ran to her daughter the Death Eaters had ran out of the corridor, fleeing the scene like cowards.

"Is she okay?" Nick asked fearfully, kneeling down next to his wife.

"Yes, just knocked out," Lyra muttered. "Can you carry her, Nick? We need to take her to the hospital wing."

"Of course," Nick cradled his daughter in his arms and they all got to their feet. "Which way?"

"Just down the stairs," Will said. "Come on, everyone else must be there already."
