The next morning Lyra's stomach was full of butterflies she had never experianced before. She had never felt so dizzy and nervous and so unsure of herself; she never thought that she'd like it so much.
She stared at herself in the mirror and hardly recodnised the beautiful girly person she saw there, whose eyes shone so brightly they didn't even show the haunted look she usually carried ever since she was little.
Lyra Black touched her stomach gently, and the butterflies calmed down a bit, giving her enough curouge to leave the bathroom, where all of the girls were smiling ear to ear. She didn't notice that Mary wasn't smiling at all, but grimacing; her stomach had a little green monster attacking at her insides.
"Good luck, Lyra," Evans got to her feet and hugged Lyra carefully and almost awkwardly because they had never hugged before.
"Thanks, Evans," Lyra said, hugging her back.
"Call me Lily," Evans laughed.
Lyra laughed with her and they both took a step back from eachother.
"You know it always annoyed me how much your name was similar to mine," Lyra said to Lily. "Lyra and Lily, Lily and Lyra. You made me hate my name."
"Thanks," Lily said. "You made me hate my name too."
Lyra smiled weekly at her and glanced at the dormitory door. "Is it natural to be nervous?"
"Very natural," Lily laughed. "I'm nervous all the time."
Lyra gulped. "I'm going in." She said it as though she were going to walk into a deathly battle.
The girls laughed at her determined expression. "I'm surprised you never went on a date before," ALice shook her head.
"I was waiting for Cormac to ask me," Lyra admitted sheepishly, not noticing Mary's hands clench into fists. "He finally did. . "
"Well go on, don't keep him waiting," Marlene said, getting up and opening the Dormitory door for her new friend. "We'll be right behind you."
Lyra's face visibly paled and more butterflies were born in her stomach. But despite her fear of making a fool of herself, she walked through the dormitory door, down the steps, across the empty common room and through the portrait hole. Every step she took she felt more and more braver, exspecially with her new friends behind her.
When Lyra finally turned the corridor to the entrance hall she seen it was packed with students and she could see Cormac clearly, since he was one of the tall boys who were leaning against the wall like they didn't have a care in the world.
Lyra smiled and walked over to him, trying not to run over to him.
Lyra caught many student's attention, because no one had ever seen her in a skirt before and they couldn't help but gape at how beautiful she looked with her hair up and her eyes shining.
"Lyra?" Lyra turned to see Sirius, James, Peter, and Remus all staring at her with wide eyes, unable to believe their eyes.
"Yes?" Lyra smiled at their expressions.
"Is that really you?" James asked, still not beliving that it was one of his best friends.
"Yes, it's me," Lyra giggled.
Now James didn't believe his ears. "Pardon me, but did you just giggle - and now you're blushing! Padfoot, do something!"
But SIrius was still gaping at his sister. "Lyra," That was the first time in a long time he called her 'Lyra'. "You look beautiful."
"Thanks, Padfoot," Lyra said, her eyes shining at her brothers compliment.
"If he touches you I'll hex him," Sirius said, in the same serious tone. "I'm serious, and I will be smiling while he's taken to the Hospital Wing."
Lyra smiled at him, knowing he was serious but that only made her feel so much better. She smiled at her brother and walked to Cormac, who looked down at her like he just noticed her.
"Lyra?" Cormac's eyes widened as he took in her appearance. "You look great!"
"Thanks," Lyra looked down at her feet, knowing a blush spread right through her cheeks.
"Come on," Cormac said, taking her hand and sending a shock travel up her arm. "If we get there first we'll be able to get an empty carrage."
