The enterrogation wasn't the only reason why Lyra didn't want her kids to come home that Christmas holiday, if it was then Lyra would have scheduled with Dumbledorefor them to come a day later, the other reason was because she didn't want Lynx and Will to see just how bad everything was getting.
Lyra got so much hate mail from scared wizards that she was forced to take out the trash every day because it was so full of them. Everyone was under the impression that she had helped her brother escape Azkaban, but Lyra knew that they knew that she would never do that.
They only sent her hate mail because they wanted someone to blame, and Lyra was the easiest person to point your finger at.
At first, Lyra's curiosity over took her and she read the hate mail, it was soon afterwards that she figured out just how dangerous that could be.
When she opened her ninth letter, green puss sprang out of it and would have hit her in the face if she hadn't have ducked. It took a whole week to scrape the hot puss off her wall. Some of her letters even tried to bite her, and you would think that it wouldn't hurt, but it felt as though a rather sharp knife had peirced her skin.
Lyra didn't read the letters anymore. Not only because they were dangerous but because it hurt her that everyone suddenly turned their back on her - as though they were never her friends. Unfortunatly, people must have known that she wouldn't read the letters because she was being sent more Howlers then she could count.
It was then that she was glad that she lived in the middle of no where, and that the only house within miles of her was Sirius', which had been empty for twelve years. If there had been a house, then everyone would have heard all those things the Howlers said, and she would never have been able to live that one down.
And now as Lyra stood in Platform Nine and Three Qaurters, she was being sent dirty looks from all over her; but she didn't even acknowledge them.
She kept her face like she always did when seeing her kids, excited and pleased. Lyra imagined Nick standing by her side with the same expression and she felt suddenly peaceful, despite the looks.
Sh heard the train before she saw it and she walked forward eagerly so she could catch a glimpse of her children, who were too excited to come home to bother to stay angry with her.
As usual, her kids' heads were hanging out the window and they were both grinning like idiots.
Lynx looked at her mother and her grin widened, she had forgotten how much she missed her.
"Mum!" Lynx called over the sound of the train stopping. "Happy Easter!"
"Happy Easter to you, too," Lyra laughed.
Will and Lynx disappeared as they put their heads back in the windows and fought against the thick crowd in the train so they could run and hug their mother.
Since Will and Lynx were so tall, they managed to push all the younger years out of their way, even a bit of older years who were short for their age. When they finally managed to get on the Platform, they were enveloped in a welcome hug from their mum.
"I missed you two so much," Lyra said, leading them away from the train door so all the other kids could say hello to their parents. "It's so quiet in the house without Remus. . ."
"No sign of Dad still?" Will said, worried.
Lyra sighed, wishing she could tell Will something differant but not wanting to lie. "No, it's like he just. . . disappeared."
Will put his hand on his mum's shoulder. "It's okay, Mum, we'll find him."
Lyra smiled at Will, her eyes suspiciously wet. "You look just like him, you know. You sound like him too, he would have said the exact same thing."
