Lyra and Cormac had been together for two whole months, and Lyra had never been anymore blissful. Her friendship with Lily had reached it's peak already and they were now as close as James and Sirius. Though Lyra and Lily's relationship had approved visibly, you could see that Mary's hatred for Lyra had quickly slipped to solid loathing.

The feeling was completely mutual, but sometimes Lyra wondered I why Mary hated her so much. As far as Lyra was concerned, she had never even spoken to Mary before she became friends with Lily; so the loathing Mary felt for her was confusing and extremely irritating.

Lyra found herself ranting complaints about Mary to either Lily, the marauders, or Cormac. Lily was never fond of those conversations because Mary was her friend, though she agreed that Mary was acting very unfairly. The marauders listened to Lyra rant about Mary, though all they did was comment about how annoing she was. Cormac, on the other hand, was very interested in this rivalry between Lyra and her dorm mate; he would listen to every single word Lyra said.

"What expression does she have when she looks at you?" Cormac asked when they had a Mary-Is-Annoying conversation once again.

"Other then hatred?" Lyra asked. Cormac nodded. "Well. . . I might not be right but I think there is jealousy in her eyes too."

Lyra bit her lip as she watched Cormac's exoression. He looked pretty pleased with himself, though Lyra didn't have any idea why he would be pleased - least of all with himself.

"I haven't any idea why she would be jealous though," Lyra admitted. "Though I hate to admit it, she is very pretty and popular. . . why be jealous?"

Lyra expected Cormac to say that Mary was jealous because Lyra was way more beautiful then Mary ever could be, but he was too busy looking smug about something.

"Why do you look so smug?" Lyra wondered.

Cormac snapped out of his thoughts and looked down at Lyra. "I'm smug because I have the most beautiful girl ever."

Lyra couldn't help but notice that his eyes were glazed over as he said that, as though he were thinking of something else. . . or someone else.

"What's on your mind?" Lyra asked, her voice struggling to stay calm.

"Only thinking about my NEWTs," Cormac shrugged. "Why?"

Lyra stared at Cormac, trying to see if he was telling the truth or not - but she couldn't tell if he was or wasn't. "No reason." Lyra said softly.

Cormac smiled at her, his eyes still glazed, and kissed her softly on the lips.

There was a yelp and a large thud, as though a body had fell to the ground. Cormac and Lyra jumped apart and twisted around to see who had walked in on them kissing.

Sirius and Peter were both on the ground in front of the portrait hole, both of them had wide eyes as they stared at Cormac and Lyra, who both had the grace to look embarrassed.

"What's going on here?" Sirius demanded.

He got to his feet so quickly that even Cormac - who had to be a head taller then Sirius - looked intimidated. Peter got to his feet less gracefully then Sirius and he watched the scene before him with hungry eyes; as though wishing a fight would blossom.

"Nothing," Lyra said, her voice was simple though Sirius could hear the warning in her voice. "We were talking."

"That must have been a very interesting conversation," Sirius seethed, not scared at all by his sisters tone. "Go to your dorm, Claws."

"Since when are you the boss of me?" Lyra snapped, getting to her feet. "The last time I've checked you weren't my dad."

"No but I am your brother," Sirius said, crossing his arms importantly. "And I don't want my sister snogging people in public."

"The room was empty before you came barging in - after curfew, I might add!" Lyra shouted.

"I think I'll go," Cormac said, slipping by Lyra and her brother and jogging up the boys' dormitory steps.

"Look what you did!" I shouted, pointing at Cormac's retreating back.

"I know," Sirius looked satisfied with Cormac's departure. "It was easier to scare him then I thought it would be."

"He wasn't scared, he was uncomfortable!" Lyra stomped her foot. "And now I feel like going to my dorm, thanks."

"Okay," Sirius said. "but don't let me catch you snogging him in public again!"

"It wasn't public!" Lyra shouted before slamming her dorm door, silencing her brother's mocking laughter.
