CHAPTER 40
"Amethyst, let's talk."
"What is it you want to talk about, dad?" Walang kasusta-sustansya kong tanong.
"About what I said." He sighs. "I know you're already 25, you're old enough. Mature enough." He pauses. "But as a father, I can't help but be protective of my daughter." Listening to him is making my eyes teary. "I know that Jaxon is a good guy. I'm just scared of you going away- getting married like your sister."
"Dad. Noong wala akong boyfriend lagi mo akong kinukulit na magkaroon ng boyfriend o makipagdate. Now, I'm with Jax you are suddenly worried?"
My father let out a sigh. "I know! But during your sister's wedding reality hit me. One of my babies is getting married. I'm giving her away to another man." Tears are also building in his eyes. "Then that evening you brought Jaxon and introduced him as your boyfriend. It felt like all my babies are finally leaving our side. I was acting cool but I was freaking out on the inside."
"Daddy, I'm not getting married anytime soon!" I reassure him. "I'm still young. I'm not planning to settle down yet." I pull away.
"That guy looks at you like he's ready to pop the question anytime soon." Aniya kaya natawa ako.
"Dad, don't be ridiculous! Jax came from a failed long-term relationship. He wouldn't propose to a girl who he met less than a year ago!"
My daddy shakes his head. "No. No. I knew a lot of people who came from a long term-- 7 years, 8 years or even 10 years of relationship. Met a new partner and get married only after 6 months of dating." My dad looks straight into my eyes. "I was from a 9-year relationship before meeting your mom." He confesses. I really don't know anything about their relationship, to be honest. "I proposed to her just 5 months after we started dating. We got married on our anniversary." He smiles. "That's the best thing that ever happened to me- you, your mom and sister are the best thing that happened me." Muli ko siyang niyakap ng mahigpit.
"I love you, daddy."
"I'm sorry if I'm acting like an ass to your boyfriend. But you know, that's part of a father's role." He sighs. "I still need to make sure that guy has good intentions."
"Dad!" Humiwalay ako sa yakap. "What are you planning to do?" "Daddy!" Sigaw ko habang sinusundan siya.
"None of your concerns anymore." I roll my eyes.
"I've heard you brought Jax on Emerald's wedding?" Tanong ni Scarlett.
"And I've heard you also met the Gonzalez's." Dagdag naman ni Venice.
"Both occasions didn't go well." Matipid kong sagot na totoo naman. Una 'yung lola nila Jaz ay parang ayaw sa akin tapos itong si dad kung umarte akala mo 15 years old lang ako.
"Hey, our abuela seemed to like you afterwards." Singit ni Jaz. "Ganun lang talaga iyon. Kahit sa amin ay mahigpit siya. She really has high standards and hard to please."
"But she likes Liv."
"Ano ka ba, iilang beses nga lang nakasama ni abuela si Liv kaya imposibleng nagustuhan niya agad iyon." Paliwanag niya para siguro pagaanin ang loob ko. "Anyway, what happened to your sister's wedding?"
